\Clownfish/ 29 Gallon BioCube Tank

Just read through your entire thread and have really enjoyed reading your progress. We're just starting a BC29, which is a step up for us since our other tanks are all 12g and below. :)

We haven't got water in the tank yet (it's been sat on the stand for the last month) as we're still looking for the right rock locally, but we have done light upgrades and about to order the media rack and fuge for the back.

I'll be following along. Thanks for sharing! Your tank's looking great!

I've had a flame angel in my DT 2 weeks now(my wife just had to have it after I told her no dragonet!). Did my research and found out it was pretty much a cr*p shoot. Most people have never had a problem, and some did right away. Some nip at corals, others never have.

I can say mine is rather small, well fed(likes the algae strips on a clip, and some seachem flakes I got, as well as my homemade brew of shrimp, scallops, clams, frozen mysis, reefchilli, and saltwater in the Cuisinart), happily picks away at the rocks the rest of the day. Has never even so much as looked at my corals, so far!

It's really up to you and how courageous you are feeling. Best bet is to ask your LFS if you can bring it back if it does nip.

Thank you ShtBhaji that means a lot. When I first started the thread that was my intention, to show people the beginning of my tank as well as my failures during the whole processes.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and give it a try, either a flame angel or a coral beauty.

Failures are as much part of the story and the learning as the successes.

I really hope to document our BC29 build better than we have our other tanks. I take the pictures but can never find the time to sort and post them. :)

Very true!

Question: I have seen my male clown (Mulder) dance for the female (Scully) but the female also dances back, any idea why this happens or could this be her showing acceptance towards him?
 
Just got a new piece of octospawn. The color is more pinkish orange and is a bit larger than the yellow octospawn. Can't believe how many views my thread has lol!
 
If you click on the number of posts you can see that it is mainly you and I talking back and forth in here with the amount of posts we each have in this thread. HA HA

I have a 5 gallon tank that I have set uo for about 2 months and have tried everything I could think of to get the nitrites safe enough to add something so I can help it cycle anyone have any tips on how to get the nitrites back to zero

I check in when ever I see a new post. Nice looking octospawn clown, been looking for one of those myself. No one around me has one, or they want an arm and a leg for a small one head frag. If you don't mind me asking(or shoot me a PM), how big and how much?

Got the week off from work, and we decided not to go anywhere for vaca this year(bought the tank instead), so decided to do some searching and find some LFS. Found a really nice one located way out of the way. Store was very clean, tanks all looked very nice, store 280G DT was super cool looking and very clean, had a ton of my favorite hammers in it. Guy seemed to know what he was talking about, and very friendly(but they all are when your looking to buy something lol).

Got myself a small gorgonian(sp?) from there. LFS said this species of gorgonian is easy to keep and very hardy(my research is saying otherwise, good thing it was cheap). Cut me a small frag right from the mother colony and told me how to care for it and put it in a shell or small rock rubble. My wife thought it was the prettiest thing shes seen. lol

I've been considering adding a golden-colored torch or frogspawn to my tank since they come up occasionally locally, but they are super expensive (+$50/head). I'm happy with my green bodied pink tipped hammer/anchor coral.

Very nice addition though. Thanks for sharing!

My yellow octospawn was $40 plus $30 for shipping. That one is about the size of a golf ball from the base and when fully open, it is the size of a kiwi fruit. The new one was $45 plus $40 for shipping but it is much bigger than the yellow. The base is about the size of a lime and when fully open it is the size of an orange.

Yep they are different in looks from a frogspawn. There is a post a few pages back where WebManny describes the two and also has pictures to compare them. I was also looking for a golden torch but a tri colored golden torch since it has three colors and looks amazing! My rainbow torch coral is the priciest thing in the tank, that sucker cost me $175 plus $40 shipping!!!! :eek: it adds a tons of movement and does look rainbowish I wish it was cheaper but they are hard to find. My dragon soul torch was $45 plus $45 for shipping more purple with a bright orange hue on the tentacles.
 
Where have you been ordering from? Been thinking about doing an order from an online store, since the 5 or 6 different LFS's I've been to either doesn't have it, or I wouldn't buy a dog bone from them.

I've been buying from Ebay. I always look for sellers with positive feedback and always check with them on their DOA policy and see what they can do for me in case I get one. I have only purchase two from there, my latest octo and my rainbow torch. Tip: ask for more pics of the coral since some sellers enhance the colors in them and look nothing like the pic sometimes. Wish I had a LFS that sold nice looking corals with color but they don't :( all I buy from my LFS are fish.
