Clownfish and Frogspawn Question

I'm hoping to add a frogspawn to my tank where I have two beautiful false perculas.

My question is, if the clownfish happen to host the frogspawn will this automatically lead to hyper-melanization (the black spots)? I really like the color of my clowns and don't want them to get stung and black spots appearing on their orange. Is there a way to prevent this and does it always happen when a clown hosts a frogspawn?

I currently have a Cinnamon Clown in my 25g with a Frogspawn. He hangs around the coral all the time, and I haven't seen any color changes on my clown.

just to let you guys know that a clown fish needs a anemone to host they could even irritate the frogspawn.to your color of you clowns it will only change with age and thats a maybe

Actually, clownfish don't NEED a anemone to host. They'll possible host in anything with tenacles, even a pot with poly line coming out of it(how breeders do it). Some tank raised clowns never host in anything. I'd recommend getting an long tenacle ane. first. This will give the clown a hosting option prior to the frogspawn. Clowns hosting in frogspawns is bad for the frogspawn, possibly fatal, as it can cause them to retract. Good luck

Unfortunately I don't have bright enough lighting right now for an anenome and I really like frogspawn, so I'm planning on adding one to my tank soon.

I don't want the clowns or the frogspawn affected negatively.

Wow, interesting replys in this thread.......

You, your clowns and the frogspawn will be fine! I have had more than a few tanks over the years, and have had clowns and frogspawns in every tank. My clowns have always hosted the frogspawns, I have one tank right now where the clowns host frogspawn, in my zoanthid garden and in my ricordia mushroom garden. Its great to see them host such strange different corals.

And if your tank is less than a year old, anemones are usually a bad idea to add anyway. They need a pretty stable mature tank.

+1

also I am not an expert but some also suggested a fake nem with polyline, if this is the case you may be able to find a colorful fake either at lfs or online which would keep them off the frogspawn, and I believe anytime a clown hosts in a stinging anything they could get the black spots.

This is going on now in my tank i have about 5 heads of frogspawn that my clowns wont leave alone, i just picked up a toad stool to see if they would move to that, they also get in my xenia and make it mad. The black spots are very unsightly, enought for me to try different corals for them.

My clowns have adopted my toadstool - the toadstool is still growing exponentially so no problems there. The female gets a little confused when the toadstool refuses to eat the mysis she brings for it, but it adds a little comedy to the tank.

In a previous tank, my clowns also hosted a hammer with no ill effects shown to either hammer or clowns.
