Clownfish Babies

Hello all,

My oscellaris clowns had babies in my 75 gal. reef for the first time today. I did some research and it sounds like they need rotifers for the first four days. Is this true, and where can I get enough before they hatch? Do i have to start a culture and do i have time?

thanks in advance

Aaron

You do still have time, But try to resist the reaction to rush. Rushing leads to mistakes and wasted materialsas the first batch will most likly be a failure. With that said, you do still have time to get a culture going. I would look up reed mariculture. They can get you a culture that you will be able to have split into 2 5 gallon buckets by the time they hatch in 8 days or so.

I would also take a look at some of the threads on RC in the breeding section, lots to learn. Specifically FB and rkelman to name a few. You can also get a book called clownfishes that is very informative.

They will need rotifers for the first week or more depending on growth. I like a dry larve weaning diet from reed mariculture called otohime A from day 7ish on.

Good luck!!

thanks for the advice, so far i think the clowns or my cherub angel have eaten about half of them. i would like to save the rest, but i may just have to wait for the next batch.
