Clownfish Breeders?

Do you feel it's necessary to use RO/DI water for a clownfish grow out tanks?

I ran a successful reef tank for 8 months before I even bought an RO/DI unit.

State your viewpoints.

I think you already know the answer you're going to get here.

I don't know that RODI is necessary for success, but it allows a measure of control over the primary component of out tank. Just picture where you live. If there was a coal power plant upwind from you, it is likely that you would have health issues. Mou may not keep over and die, but you would get more colds, be more susceptible to various diseases, etc.

I think clean water is key. Some have it, some need to filter. I live near the Marcellus Shale natural gas deposit, so we periodically hear about wells becoming contaminated with various byproducts of the industry. I have to admit, seeing water burn at room temperature is a bit unnerving.

I have heard from a few breeders around me that they actually keep the water a little dirtier to prepare them for less than perfect conditions.

I use RODI wastewater in my set-ups. Input last time I checked was 32 TDS into the RODI (very good tap water here) ,and the waste was ~70 TDS waste (that I use w/ IO salt)

First 6 hatches or so I used 0 TDS and I see no difference than using 70 TDS now.
