Clownfish Conspiracy

Over the past few months, Liveaquaria.com has had four (what I am almost certain) are differnt pairs of the Clownfish Ocelaris Snowflake Variant. Does some person have a Snowflake breeding pair of clownfish? Is it my imagination or is this variant becoming more readily avaliable?

Supposedly nobody breads this variant, it just happens rarely. I feel that it has been happening a lot more frequently.

I can think of several people on this site that want to breed these fish. people are asking for them or they wouldnt command such a high price. in a couple of years when they become more common their price should be more manageable.

You are confused. The snowflake clowns are bred and raised in England by Tropic Marine, one of the older marine fish hatcheries. Quality Marine (the pace where LiveAquaria gets there fish) is the exclusive distributor of Tropic Marine fish in the U.S.
There are no wild caught snowflakes as of yet.

What's the difference between snowflake and piccaso?

I have seen a few first hand a LFS uses TM as there wholesaler so they get them in time to time really worth the money if your looking for nice variants

The snowflake variant has no black markings or almost none.

These are snowflakes. They are ocellaris clowns and are captive bred by TMC. Reports are that a small number are born from two normally colored ocellaris parents. It is not unusual for them to have "pug" faces. This is common in CB fish from some hatcheries, and is more husbandry related than genetics related.

This is a picasso. They are percula clowns. These are rare, but not uncommon in nature, although the one pictured is an extreem example. These are also being bred at ORA and at least one private indivdual from one normal parent and one picasso parent.

This fish is the male that ORA is using in their breeding. The offspring are generally not nearly as dramatic.

I have heard that the snowflake variant is infertile.

Is this true? Are there any cases of a snowflake variant breeding?

I wish people that owned the sonwflake variant would share more information about them since they are so rare.

Not true there is a member here that is breeding small batches of the Snow flakes.
