Clownfish fighting and anemone invasions...

It's been a busy couple weeks with my 2 "pairs" of clowns. You'll see why I use quotes in a minute.

First of all, about a week or so ago, my black ocellaris pair finally found amy green BTA and have barely left since. It was so cute the first time I saw one bring back an oversized mysis and feed the anemone...

The Picasso (grade B; no insult intended) "pair" was then homeless, hovering in a corner at night. They have been together 3-4 months, since replacing one that took an improbable leap through a 1" hole in the eurobrace. (sad, sad)

I didn't have a lot of choices, but the one I ended up getting (the lighter one) is a little bigger than the original.

Anyway, this morning, one of the Picassos got spooked and then I couldn't find him for like 10 minutes. I feared another escape, despite my new lid.

But I turned on the lights and found him hiding with the ocellaris, who gradually shooed him away as they woke up.

Now tonight for the first time, the two Picassos fought like a couple dogs, round and round and locking jaws for several seconds.

As you can see, no visible damage at the moment. But I'm afraid they may have both discovered their feminine side. I know that's a risk when they're similar size. I was hoping they were both young enough they'd grow up together and one be female, one male. I don't really know how OLD they are. I'd say about 1.5" length, with tail. I've had the original one for about 8-9 months.

They have both at one time or another done the submissive shake, but not often. They usually have just hung out.

I'm sure I haven't given enough info, but any thoughts? Do male and female pairs lock jaws, or just females as suggested in the FAQ?

Has anyone had "pairs" that were this similar in size, and about this size (not babies) end up being a happy couple or do you think I'll have to pull one when it starts getting hurt?

Just sharing and seeing what I can learn...

Now, the black ocellaris were even bigger when I got them 4 months ago. They seem happy, but now I'm afraid they'll do this in the future. They're very similar size.

No comments for the clown noob, huh? That's ok, better than getting flamed.

So tonight the percs are taking turns doing the twitching "seizure" float on the side move. The other day they both wanted to dominate, now they both want to be submissive? I think they're confused...

I must be a bad parent. Or I blame the media or society or something.
