Clownfish hosting a plant!

I bought this pair of Clarki's yesterday. They are doing well. They found a rock that I have with macroalgae and are hosting it! I know you don't believe me but here are the pics!

they're gonna be bummed if you get a tang... :D

a lot of pro breeders use fooseballs as surrugate anemones (easy to sterilize), so being hosted by algae isn't 'too' suprising.

still cool though. :)

I don't believe I will have any room for a tang. I got them an LTA yesterday and they already got in it. I also got that pair of Lyretail Anthias. I think I am at my bioload. I know it was a little premature but I got a nice deal on a Mandarin. I will be down that way today to get more pods. I transfered all the good live rock from the 29g and got the fuge going and there are lots of pods in there.

Here are some tips on growing pods:

refuge the pods and feed them plankton, (you could also use silica and grow diatoms - but it would have to be in a seperate system). I did this when building up a pod population and they boomed. If you can, cut pre-filter material cut in squares, (the more the merrier) and place them throughout the refugium. Not only does it give them more surface area to breed, but it makes harvesting and transferring easy for you.

I do have some phytoplex. Is this ok?
Also what filter media? I use craft batting instead of the blue pads. Should I just cut these into small squares? I know I have pods in my refugium. I have lots of Chaeto and some LR chunks. I also put in a bag of reef pods in to the fuge and into the display the other day. I also got 30 pounds of the LR from my existing tank when I set up this 90 gallon.
Thanks

Rick,
I got a nice deal on a coral beauty I am gonna pick up today. Do you think that would be ok. I swear that is the last fish! Lol..
BTW all my params are good. Water quality doing great.

feeding the pods a little phyto is fine but don't go overboard. everytime you run your algae magnet over the glass, your giving the pods usable phyto anyway.
i wouldn't sweat the bits of filter material. in a fuge with macros, they have all the perches they need.
the coral beauty 'should' be Ok. just keep an eye on the parameters for rising nitrates and phosphates from the poop getting converted.

I went to pick up my Coral Beauty and it had a popeye. I felt so bad. But they offered me a "African Coral Beauty" instead for the same price. I brought it home and acclimated it and did a little research and found out it is no more than a blue fin Angel. It is still pretty cool. As long as it doesn't pick at my corals. I also picked up a yellow sun coral and a orange sun coral. I guess I have all the colors now. Lol..
Lee said they aren't doing well cause they need feeding at night and the shop is closed at that hour. Those corals have been there for a while. But they opened up about an hour after I got them in and they have already been spot fed. You should see the extension on these things. I don't know if I can take a pic of them in the dark. I will try to post some tomorrow.
I think Santa is gonna get me a protein skimmer. I do have 2 that came in this bag of junk from my 90 gallon but everything is in pieces and I don't believe they work.

I've always gotten sun corals to eat by prefeeding the tank frozen cyclopeeze. they open up on the smell, day or night, then I feed them their mysis, etc.
ya, the blue fins are kinda blah next to a nice coral beauty, but not everyone keeps a bluefin either. hopefully it's not a nipper...
if you can bag up all the skimmer pieces and bring'em by the shop tomorrow, I should be able to figure them out and see if anything's usable.

So far so good. It picks at the rocks and stuff but not any corals yet. Everyone loves the Cyclopeeze. That stuff is great. I probably need more. I have used half of it already.
My husband and I are going Christmas shopping today. How long will you be there?

Hi guys! Mary, where did you get the African from? Cindy's?

Also, if you decide to part with either skimmer, I may be interested (if Rick figures them out). Lee drilled the corner tank for me and I am going to use that as an octopus tank. Since they are extremely messy, I need a good skimmer. My problem lies in the limited space I have down there to put in a skimmer. I bought a used w/d from Lee that almost fits in the stand. I have to cut a piece of the back of the stand out so that I can get it in there, but that should be okay. So let me know if they end up working and if you want to get rid of one.

Rick, where is your shop located and do you have used equipment there for sale?

Sure Ally,
You have been good to me and I won't forget it. If you can figure it out you are welcome to one of them. One is a custom one that seems kinda cheapy that came in the sump when they bought it. The other is a Typhoon. It can be a HOB or in sump I think. Whenever you want to stop by let me know because there are alot of pieces.

Also there is a Magnum 350 canister plus replacement parts, hoses, and filter cartrige. You are welcome to take a look at it. I am sure we can work something out.

I have some sand and some decent base rock that seems pretty well seeded in my 29 gallon too if you need it. There are also some different PH's in the basket. But they are missing the brackets that hold them up to to stick to the glass. They work though.

Thanks Mary! Maybe in a couple of weeks I can stop by. We leave to Miami next Friday and will be gone till Jan. 1. I am off till the 5th though, so maybe during that time I can stop by.

By the way, I stopped by Mariam's house today. She lives right down the street from me. I picked up a huge sized clam for $40, some mushies for $1 each and a maroon bubble tip anemone for $15. She has some more corals she wants to get rid of.
