Clownfish Identification

Hello. I'm new to this hobby and this forum. I have a 29-gallon HQI Bio-Cube. It's been running for the past 4 months. Is my tank ready for an anemone? Also, I need help identifying the type of clownfish I picked up at a local store (they could not give me a name for it). Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I definitely think a white stripe maroon. It looks small, so maybe a juvenile one who hasn't fully developed its stripes, yet?

i would say that your clown is a gold stripe maroon. its still a juvi and will get the gold stripe in a few months. regular maroons are more likely one solid maroon color and yours has a nice metallic or brighter reddish orange on the fins. all my gsm i owned have had this pretty brighter color on the fins or outlined of the fins.

if you get another clown, get one smaller than your existing clown so the one in your system now can keep on becoming the dominate female. if you get a larger than the one you have, then expect a war with casualties. clowns are born neither male or female. they will turn into what is needed. if a clown is alone, it will be a female. if a smaller one is added then the smaller will get pushed into submission and become the male.

but when you go buy another maroon clown, get a gold stripe maroon.

i would wait. the clownfish do not need one to be happy or survive.

I am pretty sure that clowns develop into males if they are alone. This way they are more flexible when a partner does arrive. If the new fish is a female, the original fish can stay male. If the new fish male, then the larger of the two can become the female. Having this flexibility is important when you cannot go out and search for a mate. Clowns have to take what they can get!
