clownfish only tank

I have seen a few tanks here on RC where they have a lot of small clownfish in their tank with 1 or 2 anemones. What is the key to keeping a tank like this? Do you just have to buy the clownfish the same size and put them in at the same time?

I have a ton of questions on this so if you currently have one of these tanks....please chime in as to the pro and cons.

They key is that they don't play nice in the long term. Eventually a dominant pair will emerge, and when they start looking for a secure place to spawn the other clownfish will be harassed to death.

Very rarely does it last more than a year or two before someone dies, but if you absolutely have to try it out Joyce Wilkerson's book mentions something about Ocellaris and Pink Skunks being the most likely to put up with clowns outside of the pair, I think.

One pair is best.
Usually if you see many clowns in a tank they are babies from the same breeding pair.

Just 2 is all ya need. They are very lively and are fun to watch. And you can keep them for many many years.

Don't mix species and don't get more than 2 and you will love them!!!

If you search you will find a few (handful) that have done it. I am gearing up to try. The keys seem to be getting docile clowns like skunks, having a big tank, and having large anemones.

I already have a pair of skunks that host an 18" gigantea. As soon as I find some more large anemones, I am going to dump in 6-10 juvie skunks and cross my fingers.
