Clownfish Probs...MOCHAS

Been having problems with my mocha clowns. Got a pair of smaller mochas about 2 weeks ago from LFS. One died off during pairing and the other guy was left by himself. Going good and strong for a while. Eating like a champ, no water problems. Did a water change late last night, woke up, fed him and ran some errands. Came home and the guy was gone.

I've heard Mocha's are quiet picky as far as pairing and eating. Question now is should I wait to get a new pair and should I try mochas again or try a new variety of clown?

Also, is it best to pick out the smaller fish at LFS or the larger fish? HALPP.

First off. How old is the tank and what are the water parameters? SG pH Temp...

In reguards to clowns I have always felt it is better to get two from the same brood that are the same size. That way they already know each other and let one become the female.

You handle says new2salttanks, is why I asked the question about water parameters.

Right, I understand. I had bought the two together. However, during pairing in the tank is when we lost one of the fish. Leaving the 2nd clown all by his lonesome. Tank is about 3 months old. Haven't had any other problem with any other fish deaths. Just these mochas.

Other Livestock:
Firefish
Fire Shrimp
Sixline Wrasse
Purple/White bubble tip anemone
Frogspawn
Zoas

Water Parameters:
Temp: 80
PH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Salinity:1.025

Feeding: Variety of frozen brine and live mysis shrimp.

Parameters shouldn't be an issue .. I have heard of fire shrimp killing fish sometimes . How big is the shrimp in comparison to the clowns you had ? If the LFS will replace them , I would go back and try to get the 2 largest they have

Fire shrimp is very small in comparison. He hides a lot too. Called the LFS today and they asked me to bring in water so they could look at it and will give replacement fish. I don't think I will be getting Mochas though.

I have a pair of mochas from petco for over 1.5yrs now. They are great i like the colors on them. They share btas with my small maroon clowns. If lfs is replacing it for free then go for it. If you are trying to pair it then you want to get one bigger then the other one, gives it a better chance of pairing. It works for me. Your sixline wrasse could be killing the clowns.

Glad they will replace them.

I heard something similar about sixlines being extremely agressive in some tanks. Was thinking about taking him in for trade to the LFS when I go to get a new pair of fish. Glad your mochas are doing well! They are gorgeous fish!
