Clownfish quarantine

So I am finally ready to put fish in my tank. I have setup a hospital tank. I plan on treating all my fish for minimum of 4 weeks before putting it in the DT. My question is can clownfish be treated with Cupramine? Or should I go with Paraguard? I also plan on treating them with Prazipro. I can't find any info on which fish will tolerate copper and which fish won't.

Thanks for your help

Any copper product is just flat out a bad idea! It is a immunosuppressant that may actually aide some parasites and doesn't even treat the biggest threat to clownfish: Brooklynella

So the most important thing with clownfish is to give them a formalin bath against possible Brooklynella infections before they even go into the quarantine tank.

After that you could do TTM with additional formalin baths or just observe for 2 months.
Another option would be 2 weeks of Chloroquine Phosphate (NLS Ick-Shield Powder) against possible Amyloodinium or Cryptocaryon infections and then 6 to 8 weeks observation.

I have been giving my fish formalin dips before going into the QT tank. Do you prophalatically treat your fish with CP? I too think copper sucks, and I don't like doing hypo either.

I don't do prophylactic CP, only when needed.
Though I found that clownfish do best if given an anemone as soon as possible.

Thank you for the info. Now I need to figure out formalin bath.

Not much to figure out: 20 drops (=1 ml) formalin 37-40% per gallon (US) of saltwater. Bath time 30 to 50 minutes.

I use Formalin MS from FishVet - you find it at Amazon.com

Personally I would only do prazi if the fish show signs of an internal infection (white stringy poo, constantly poor appetite, weight loss despite eating well,...)

I've seen some posts here where reportedly some fish stopped eating. Though it seems they started eating again once the treatment was over.

I never had much issues with my anemonefish having internal parasites. The big concern with them is Brooklynella and maybe Amyloodinium. Even Cryptocaryon is a rather rare occurrence in my experience.

Other fish like for example all the Valenciennea species are notorious for intestinal infections and should always be treated, even if not showing symptoms.

I was not going to get a clownfish. But my 6yr old wants a black clown and the three year old wants the true percula (for him is nemo). And their mother is all for it. So gotta make them happy and get 2 different clowns. I guess time will tell how well these 2 will get along.

Assuming with black you mean a black ocellaris or an onyx percula they should get along as long as you get small individuals.

Just don't give in to the kids on adding a "Dory" later - it will just cause you headaches and ich issues.

I have no problem with Prazi for clowns... you should add more flow or bigger air pump to make up for the loss of o2.

I do have a lot of problem using Prazi on wrasse for some reason... though this doesn't seem to effect everyone..

just be careful using any type of medication.

I am adding a HOB filter and an air stone as well. Was thinking about starting with Prazipro before everything else. Good or bad idea?
