Clownfish Question!! :)

Trying again
I didn't know wether to post this here or the WTB section, but i'm not looking to buy these fish for atleast a month and think i'll get more responses here. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that sells mated PAIRS of TRUE non-tank bred percula that look like this. Pretty Clownfish Notice how they are yellow/light orange and have really bold black stripes and the true tank bred percula are the nemo looking ones, thanks for all the help as always!

OMG YOU ARE AWESOME!!! THANKS SOOOOOOO MUCH. I'm pumped that someone responded so quickly, these are EXACTLY what i'm looking for... now i wonder if they will send pics of them so i can chose my favorites LOL, but thank you SO MUCH!

I just looked and there shipping is expensive! but if i can't find any place i'll end up buying from there, they are amazing fish. :P but thanks , there is still a great chance i'll be going through them.

I would try to call some of the better known online stores, just because its not on the website doesnt mean they cant get it.

Ah shag! you come through again! :-) i'll do that also. I'd like to find a site that will send me pictures of the pair so that i can see what i'm buying. I'd hate to get them and not be close to what i want. Either being too dark or there stripes. Or w/e the reason may be I'm just picky! lol thanks again shag!

I find that if you go to your lfs they can special order, then you won't have to pay for shipping. There are a few stores I've been to where they dont charge extra for the "pair". I got my pair of true percs for $38. Some places make it a big deal about being a pair that they'll charge extra.

Well it is usually because they are special bagged together and the wholesaler charges more for the true mated pair. I have seen the invoices for a lfs the reason I know this and no I do not work at a LFS.

Well that would make sense.. so the mated pair doesn't get put in a seperate tank or mixed up, so shipping would be more expensive to do so i'd imagine.

Criccio, if i buy to true percs, will they become a bonded pair over time and lay eggs? or is there a chance of them still fighting or being aggressive.

There's no guarantees, but if you buy them small enough (~1")they will most likely pair up. There will be some aggression/fighting as these little (unsexed) ones determine which one is going to become dominate (the female). Luckily, percs/ocellaris are the least aggressive clowns, so it should happen relatively quickly. They will then be considered a bonded pair. Eventually they may lay eggs (again, no guarantees) and become a mated pair. That's why I am leery of any vendor calling their pairs mated because they probably haven't spawned in their system, which would just make them bonded.

You could make the pairing a little easier if you get a large and small one. Then, the female has already been determined, and the smaller should submit pretty quickly. You just have to be careful about getting the smaller one to be sure it hasn't changed over yet, so the smaller the better.

I personally would give inland a call since they breed clowns on site and are very knowledgeable.

HTH.

Thanks for all the help! I'll give them a call once i get my tank completely setup and am looking for a pair. I didn't know there was a difference between bonded and mated pair. It doesn't bother me either way if they have eggs or not, although I'd like the challenge of having succesful lil percs. I just don't want them fighting with one another in there 12g tank. Just one question though, why would a bonded pair not lay eggs, I'd think that since they are bonded they are in love lol, but i'm new to the hobby so i have a lot to learn. Thanks again for the help criccio

Clowns aren't considered to be a mated pair until they have spawned. Just because they're bonded doesn't mean they have mated (spawned). I guess the mated/bonded issue is more of a clownfish enthusiast thing. ;)

I have two little percs for my 12g nano. I bought two little guys and they quarreled for a few days and now they're best buds.
