clownfish swimming straight up

ctenophors rule

I have had clowns swim nose down, but never nose up. If they are not actively swimming their head pitches forward.

Right now they are all floating up at the surface looking like shrimp fish.

They are 2 days old, and all have full stomachs.

I increaed the flow a little to move the rotifers into the water column, but no changes as of yet.

I am using a led fixture for lighting, 225 lights 1/2 white 1/2 blue.

Well only one made it past day 3, and that was after i had put paper towels under the led's.

My theory is that they were suffering from too much light. however they didn't sink to the bottom because their were 225 very focused sources where the light was to strong that they would occassionaly swim under. The paper towel stratified the light and now larvae is a fish !

Its kindof far fetched, but no one more experienced chimmed in...

what kind of lighting are you running?

I always used florescent tubes or incandecent bulbs. Nothing fancy, Just enough to be able to see in the tank and to allow them to hunt.

Too much light probably

Too much light probably

Baby clowns are very sensitive to light and their eyes are easily damaged. I use a low watt fluorescent light at least a foot over the top. As they get older you can increase the light. They also need rotifers to survive past the first week.
