My female tomato of 3 years has come out only to chase the male and for food. Otherwise during the day she stays in HER cave. Only food and confrontations coaxs her from that happy place. Just get used to it early in case they never permanently come out in open water. Most clowns don't wander aimlessly in the wild. They are purpose driven fish (eat and protect territory) that don't want to become someone else's meal. That is my experience with all clowns except percs, false percs, clarkii. Those 3 species swim freely in the water column IME.
