Reminds me of Discovery shows of the fish forming balls to protect themselves.

Slakker is correct, Wilkerson has a photo of it too, I think. It is usually among tank bred groups, they form a ball for protection, like coral cats do. It probably happens when they're scared, quite common.

I also believe that they are being feed during this time. Audio from another clip of this smae event lead me to believe this. Possible that this is started by a feeding frenzy.

I am also aware that fry do this...which I do believe is to make them feel safe at that age.

this is reffered to as a clown ball i think its like they host eachother . it is very cool to see.

It could, don't get me wrong...my response was a bit blunt as I was just about to head out the door.

If I recall correctly, according to Wilkerson, captive bred ocellaris/percula clowns are often observed doing this close to lights out or when startled.

Let me see if I can dig up my copy and find it in there.

The picture is on Page 58, and with Skunks on page 73.
She says this: "All the clownfishes I've reared schooled at night and when startled, but skunk clowns school continually..."

This is the first time I've ever seen a video of it though...it certainly is really cool looking. Seems like from the video there are a lot of people around the tank...could certainly be enough to startle them into a schooling ball.

wow loved that video, didnt even know clowns could do that, I did find a part of it disturbing, the kids hitting the glass to scare them to break apart, maybe Im just to much of a clown lover but I would never allow my kid to do anything like that
