My three year old ocs finally laid their first batch, these have already hatched and a new batch was laid last night.

Are they hard to see when they hatch? Or do they get eaten up by everything before they get big enough to even see?

In a reef tank they will get eaten by other fish and corals. The pic is the day before they hatched. It was around 11:00 pm when they hatched. Most who raise them use a light to lead them into a container to place in a grow tank. The trick is catching them hatching before they become food. They are very small and must be feed rotifiers and then to bbs.I will try and attempt to raise a batch soon.

I guess spring is in the air...ours spawned on Easter Sunday for the first time. That batch hatched the 7th evening and we missed it. They laid eggs again in less than a week...those hatched last night. The first time I didn't know what to expect but yesterday when the male didn't eat and worked feverishly all day with the eggs I was pretty sure it was time. We watched several of the eggs hatch and were able to observe the fry. I messed around with them a little and they WILL swim toward a light and all the other fish are sleeping so it MIGHT be possible to catch them before they are consumed.

I think Cathy Peck raised babies so I PMd her but I guess she hasn't seen it because I haven't heard back. I ordered a rotifer starter after the first batch of eggs but it failed. The supplier will replace them but I'm not so sure I want to fool with it. As much as I would like to do it, with summer coming up, I'm not sure I want to be tied to maintaining them. Anyone else out there raising babies? Or rotifers for that matter?
