Clowns loved my anemone to death

So I bought a beautiful rbta and my clowns (an old and large pair) took to it within 15 minutes of placing it into the tank. Over the next week they would not leave it alone, not even durning the night. The anemone starting loosing it tips or tentacles so I put a cage over it to try and keep the clowns off of it. Turns out the smaller male clown could still get to it and the anemome finally had enough and detached.

It found a new home deep within some rocks, and although my clowns still know it's there, they only visit it occasionally. However I'm not sure it's going to survive, it's been tucked into these rocks for about 10 days now and hasn't moved, but it's got three or four tentacles at best. I've been trying to feed it with mysis shrimp and a turkey baster however it doesn't have any arms to close up over the food, but it does eat whatever gets into its mouth.

I'm hoping it will survive... anyone else experience something like this?

You're going to have to get it out of where it's hiding currently. It won't come out on its own. Once you get it out, I suggest getting a basket, kinda like a colander or strawberry basket, and floating it on the surface of your tank, and then putting him in there for maybe a month or so. There you can feed him, monitor him without worrying about clowns harassing him. And, best of all, its very unlikely that he will walk out. This will allow him to heal , get stronger, grow bigger and finally be reintroduced back in when he's ready.

Leave it alone. A few months ago I had a BTA lose all of it's tentacles due to burning them with my new lights and it went into hiding. It came out of hiding about weeks later with a full set of tentacles. I too figured it was a goner but nope. It's alive and well  Looks better than before too.

It's moved into a place that would be difficult to get him out without removing rocks.

Yours came back after a few weeks with full tentacles? wow, maybe there is hope yet... Thanks!

large clowns can beat an anemone to death.. specially aggressive clowns like Clarkii or Maroon.

I've seen clowns bite anemone, however, they won't trim your anemone clean. I don't think you can blame the clowns 100%

anemone lose tentacle from expelling. Usually from too much light, too high of nitrate, tank not ready, or sickness... you have to find out why your anemone is not doing well, beside the clowns.

I've seen this countless times in my anemone tank.. sometimes they make it back and regrow all their tentacles.. sometimes they die. it all depends on your tank and the anemone's current health.

treating with Cipro is always an option..

I would either 1) take the anemone out to treat or 2) block off the clowns completely or 3) put a large LPS coral for your clown to get hosted in

Clowns loved my anemone to death

It happened twice to me. I've had maroons love an entamea quadricolor to death because it wasn't big enough for them many years ago.

Recently I've also have had my pair of ocellaris also shrink an entamea quadricolor to near death. Though this time too much light seemed to have also played a role in the shrinkage.
At first it was 5 inches from the top and within a few days it went to hide in a darker corner where it was about 61/2 " across and feeding well. When the clownfish finally decided to go in it after a few months it started deflating. The female clown would pick the food out of it instead of helping feeding it. And rubbed the $hit out of it until it was down to an inch and half.
It's now quarantined , hopefully I'll be able to save it from starvation.
The clownfish now have a h. Magnifica who enjoys the light and the clownfish .
Lesson learned : never get an anemone that's less than 3 to 4 times the length of the biggest clownfish.!
