Club News talk....

Well, what other LFS are there in the area? Im talking within like 20-30 minutes of y-town. Im in boardman and there are 4 fish stores, a pet supplies plus (has a 55gal with saltwater fish), a petco (saltwater fish only), a petland (fish and a few corals, lots of cyano), and the tropical pet house (very few corals, usually expensive fish, nice guy but a big time bullsh!^^er). When I go to these places the corals are being sold so who is buying them? I know alot of people in this area keep FO tanks cause they think lionfish are neat, but somebody has got to be buying the corals as well.

Maybe we should talk to the people in changre of C-SEA and see if they can help us out with some ideas or anything? Ive seen several people from y-town posting on their forum.

Oh, also, if we want to try a fragswap going putting it on fragswapper.com would definitly give us a better idea of how much interest we have.

No offense or anything, but i wouldn't touch a fish or coral from any of the above places you mentioned even if they were rediculously cheap. Everything they have is crappy and or dies and kills other things in your tank. I only go to professional aquatics from time to time, or make the drive to the salty critter, like i said most of the cool stuff i have either i picked up from someone else in pit or clev who was tearing down a tank, or came across it at an upscale store such as the critter or a few places i've seen in florida. the places in this area just don't have quality stuff and or they are always out of stuff because they don't order enough to satisfy the demand. Heck, one of us should open up a store :)

No offense taken, I was pointing out that the stores here suck. Only thing I ever bought in Boardman was a flame angel at petco that did very well. I would enjoy nothing more than opening a fish store but as it turns out the 23$ I have in my wallet right now wont do the trick. Plus I got rid of almost all of my stuff, I was propagating sps, lps, softies and non-photosynthetic corals in Cleveland, but now I am without. Stacker, you sound like a responsible adult, whadda ya say you ditch all that Exec. of a small Design/Build firm jazz and get some LFS action goin in Y-town?

haha... yea stack why don't you open a local fish store. it can also be a state liquor agency. You'd be loaded, the alcohol could fund all the propagation tanks that you could set up. think of the people you'd attract haha. What a genious plan, i might have to put it into action myself. Then again if you owned it dale, you'd probably just get hammered and fall into one of the tanks and drown. Bad idea :smokin:

Just checking the posts and see you guys have been talkative. Unfortunately, I agree with Stacker the "club" is really no more than a few guys getting together from time to time. Most people want....... but do not want to give. I am always open to having a get together at my place from time to time as it has been fun. My last scuba class is this Sunday and then I'm open again. Does this mean I can keep all my $ (donations)? You are correct Stacker we have only three paid members and you and I are two of them.

Give me a call Stacker,

Paul

Yup, all valid points Jamoke but trust me when I say to you that that fat has already been chewed. Your comments emulate my past enthusiasm now replaced with the apathy fo the original group of people where were once so eager to help out. NOT!

the corals you speak of are happilt sold to new, young, dumb, and impressionable salt water keepers by clerks at these LFS for profit only. They don't care if they live 5 min. or 5 years as long as they move the merchandise. I actually watched a guy buy a Naso or $80 at a LFS to put in a 10 gal. tank. This tank was aparenty a freshwater that he planned to add "salt" too when he got home and dump the fish in.... the clerk bagged the fish, rang him up and sent him off to kill an $80 fish. $40 profit, new saltwater guy will be back on payday for another victim.... that's how they make $$ and the main reason why I'd never sell to a newbie who was clueless. Nope, not even a snail!

Paul, you can't say we didn't try, didn't advertise, didn't solicit help from the local industry and didn't provide ample scheduling for folks to get involved. They simply want all the benefit for zero input. Not that this is atypical of most associations but you'd think that atleast a handful would want to atleast see a few reef setups and meet other local enthusiasts once a month or so...

I'll call you tonite, I need to purchase a bottle of wine for a weekend party at a remote lake in Northern MI. with friends anyway!

O well, maybe it will work out at a later time, otherwise whos down for going to the Cleveland meetings? Are there even gonna be anymore meetings in Cleveland or are they still taking the summer off?

We'll most certainly get together still but we just won't be considering it a club function unless someone wants to step up and shake a bit of their mojo on it. The few of us who actually mdes up the club still communicate personally so the others just won't necessarily be privy to when we meet or goto stores or shows... Just a smaller quiter us is all.

Regarding Cleveland meetings, it's always just been tough for me to break free and make the trip. That and noone else really seemed to be interested. I've wanted to goto Pittsburg meetings too... Again, life seems to get in the wayn

Cleveland meetings are tough to make on Fridays, even when I lived there. I always keep my Sundays open for fishing or paintball in the morning and whatever else in the afternoon or evening.

If you guys decide to get together, please lemmie know, Id be very interested in meeting whomever actually participates and see some systems. Who knows, maybe after a while some more people will get into the hobby and a group can happen.

Paul and I talked about exactly that lastnight. You are wise beyond your years. Is is ths beers? LOL We'll have a few get-togathers to talk salt water geek stuff and maybe even setup a project or 2 for acrylic work, fragging, calk reactor setup, plumbing or lighting or who knows what.... We usually have a good time, it's a wonder why so few show... Good food, drinks.... hell, we even raffle off frags and drygoods every time. I guess that TV programs are more important to some.
