Club Officers

Are you interested in serving as a club officer? Elections will be held at our Christmas meeting. All current and prospective new members are encouraged to put their names in that hat. Those elected as club officers will receive a complimentary individual membership for the duration of their service. Michelle and I have reviewed the following "starting" positions descriptions for officers and we'll be working on voting/nomination procedures to be used at our Christmas meeting.

Club President:
media relations, club marketing, presiding over club meetings (member and officer meetings)

Club Vice-President:
performs all club president duties in the temporary absence of the club president, also in charge of running club's raffle's and auctions.

Secretary:
membership coordinator, member newletter, member communications. Official recorder of board meetings.

Treasurer:
keeper of club's financial ledger. Overseer of raffle funds, membership dues and all club expenditures.

Details on club officer elections (to be held during our Dec. 12th meeting):

Any paying member of the club may run for office for the 2011 year. For those who are new to the club, you will be able to purchase a membership @ the meeting and thus qualifying you to run for office. The sign-in sheet at our meeting will have a space for candidates to express their desire to run and for what position. At some point during the meeting all candidates will be acknowledged and given an opportunity to make a pitch for their election. Ballots will then be given to all paying members. Results will be tallied immediately and those not elected for their desired post will have an opportunity to volunteer to run for any unfilled positions should there be any. If more than one person desires one of the unfilled positions then another ballot will be handed out to select the winner. If uncontested then an automatic award of the position will be made.

Our LFS sponsors (owners and managers) are not eligible to run for office and because of this they will be in-charge of counting ballots to assure fairness and transparency. Winners of a club office position will be given a complementary membership for 2011. If one has already been purchased a refund will be issued.

Some people may be shy and reluctant to step up. I suggest a club nomination process by others instead of self nomination.

Also I 'd like to see a list of people shown on the forum who are interested in running for election.

Can we do both Ron? Self nomination and nomination by others?

Regarding seeing nominations on the forum (or facebook). While I think that is a good idea, I don't think it should prevent someone from running just because they aren't checking the forums or facebook. I'm thinking there will be people that are new to the club showing up on Sunday who have not had a chance to check us out on-line but they might well have the time and experience to contribute as a club officer.

I will go ahead and ask now for those interested in running to post their intentions on this thread and I will make a similar appeal on Facebook. What do you think Ron?

Ron, I would also like to limit voting to paying members present at the meeting as expressed above but also want to limit voting by family members to only those who are signing up for a 2011 membership and paying the extra $5 for additional household family members who wish to be involved in the club. Of course current members will be able to sign up for the 2011 memberships (including family memberships) and delay payment until our January meeting. A membership application will be given out at the meeting for those wishing to join and a place will be available for listing family members whom you wish to add to the membership for $5 per extra household family member. It should also be noted that the complimentary membership for those elected to serve on the board will not include any extra family members so if one wishes to add them the $5 extra fee will apply.

I really think that for our first election this should suffice to make this a fair and painless process. The elected board can then tweak the process prior to our next election cycle in Dec of 2011.

Can we do both Ron? Self nomination and nomination by others?

I am not in a position to make policy. The election should be run the way you want it, Raul. I should have made myself clearer. From my experience some people are reluctant to stand up but will accept (or at least consider) a nomination from some one else.

My suggestion (and only a suggestion) is that, even at this late date, people can nominate, or self nominate on the forum or facebook, but also it can be accomplished at the meeting. I think more people may want to get involved that way.

Ron

Today's meeting yielded our first batch of club officers.
President: Raul Roman
Vice-president: Jeff Bates
Secretary: Eric Lyons
Treasurer: Michael Williams

Now that we have elected officials, I want to take a moment to thank the members of MORE's initial advisory/startup committee, Ron Denoia, Michelle Yingst and Russ Maxwell.
Ron DeNoia is responsible for our great logo and Michelle Yingst was the one that got the club's finances up and running. Russ Maxwell got us setup with a forum where we were able to discuss club business from the very start of the club. Without their help we would not be where we are now. Thank you all for your help.
