Club stuff to pass around

I noticed on another thread Bullet had mentioned that at one point the club had thought about buying a fish trap to buy and pass around from member to member.

I def. think this is a great idea as most of us would only use the thing once and never again (hopefully).

Just thought maybe we could get some suggestions here with some things that would be good for this. I'm not saying that this will happen but I think it's a great idea and def. think as a club it's a good thing to look at.

Well I'll start:

1. Fish trap

1. Fish Trap (maybe we can get someone to donate one) hint hint :D
2. Lux Meter (great idea)
3. TDS meter

That thing looks pretty sweet but D@MN that thing's pricey! So it's basically a magnifying glass on steroids? Can you hook that into a DSLR camera for picture taking too?

Lux meter

Lux meter

I'll second or third the lux meter.

But let have every one take a picture of their tank
map the corals, and what lux reading and what brand of light, depth, .

that would make a cool report to plot out....

I'm sure someone already has one out there, there are probably several out there, but a Dremel tool would be awesome to have for fragging.

I'll agree, but only if a clear system for exchange of anything the club owns is laid out, rules for their use are clearly written, someone steps forward to manage anything the club buys, and some sort of punishment is worked out for anyone that abuses the arrangement.

It was difficult enough to keep track of who had what in a university club spanning all of 30 miles in a direction and consisting of a dozen members, I shudder to think of the mess it would be to keep track of a bunch of stuff over the state of Iowa.

note: sorry for the pessimistic attitude towards this, but I know all too well that all it takes is one lazy ******* to turn a good idea like this into an aggravating ordeal.

I would have to argee with ryan, keeping who has who would be a nightmare. Also the problem comes up what happens when something like the mesoscope gets broken, who can say with a positive that the person who broke it is going to one admit to it and two pay for it? I could see purchasing smaller items for group tanks tours and such but the more expensive things are asking for a date in court trying to sue someone to get something replaced.......on a side note I'd about give my left leg for one of those mesoscopes, we got to play with one at IMAC and they are AWESOME. If you've ever wanted to take one nice macro shot this would be something you would what to invest in

Maybe we could have things that you could use at meetings or on tours? The lux meter would be cool for a tank tour. Not sure how time consuming it is to test a tank but could be a possibility.

The mesoscope would be awesome at frag auctions or on tank tours. Its definitely got my curiosity piqued.

I think a Hanna phosphate meter would be nice to have if we could use them at meetings. Members can bring a water sample to test. I should have my own but have been neglecting to buy one.

I realize all of this would take some money but the club could easily raise that through an extra frag auction or whatever. I would be willing to donate 100% of the proceeds from my corals in the auction to the cause.

Well all I can say is we can see how the october frag auction goes....right now it's going to be our BIG event for the year. I talked to several people at the Rockford deal including the guy that put it on, he's going to help me work out a few kinks and the plan is for the rockford club along with uberfrags.com to attend the auction.....not going to make any promises but it sounds like a good start......if it goes well we may have enough money to do alot of things

When we discussed this before the question of where do they stay came up and seemed to be a sticking point. Kind of like those IMAC videos we own...

I would have to agree with atticus and glaspie.

I do think a workshop on how to build a fish trap would be great!

I like the Hanna idea but I might just buy one. A PAR meter would be more useful than a Lux meter as well.

The only problem with a par meter is that it's about $1200 setup nice, most of us already know the spectral plot of our bulbs thanks to Sanjay so a cheaper lux meter would be good enough to see just how much intesity is on a particular area.

A par meter would rock, but I guess I was thinking the budget would probably be a couple hundred dollars or less.

You can get a decent one for our level of use for around $300 where not sanjay we don't need spectral ploting. I forgot the name but the PAR meter that The Grim Reefer and Hahnmeister use are like $300 and ther quite useful.

LUX meter really are not good for much consider the range of light the detect.
