Clutch question

My occellaris have started spawning. Currently this is their second clutch. However in both cases the eggs have never been orange. They start of fkinda clear, and then in a few days turn blackish. The seem to be developing because the eggs grow a little bigger and it looks like I can see eye spots thru the egg. However I haven't seen any fry (probably too much turbulence in the water - the is a gigantea tank so tons of flow).

I'm wondering what people's thoughts on this are. Thanks.

if they are darkening up, the eggs are fertile and the larvae are hatching out. You should be able to see the eyes glimmering inside the egg sac after a few days.

Depending on the temperature of the water, the eggs should hatch out after approximately 7-10 days. Mine always seemed to hatch on day nine for percula x ocellaris hybrids.

If you want to see the larvae, you must turn off all the pumps on the night of the hatch. After a half hour to an hour, shine a flashlight at the surface of the water and you should see the larvae start jerking toward the light.

If you ever want to raise these guys, get the book "Clownfishes" by Joyce Wilkerson. It contains invaluable information.

I`ve never had clear eggs but I believe its a broodstock diet thing.

Yup. The broodstock diet will also impact initial larval survival.

I've had clear eggs before but that was on the very first spawnings of my clowns. Most of the clear eggs were eaten before hatchout. Healthy eggs should have an orange tint for ocellaris clowns.
