Meeting about forming a CMAS Chapter
After putting the phone list together I contacted Boyd/FiberLux (the President of CMAS) regarding Rich's idea of forming a chapter here in the Calumet region. I forwarded all of my communications from Boyd to Rich, so that he could make an announcement about Boyd's idea for a meeting prior to the Frag Swap on 3/15.
Since no announcement was made, and since time is running out for everyone to make plans, I guess I'll pass along the info that Boyd sent me and I forwarded to Rich. Here's a copy of a PM that i received on 2/27:
It isn't my intention to run off and steal Rich's idea. This is 100% Rich's ball if he would like to run with it. I am only trying to help by passing along information that was given to me, so that everyone knows what's happening.
Boyd would like to meet with everyone from our area who is interested in this idea. The swap starts at 1:00 pm. If Boyd wants to meet with everyone before the swap, we'd need to be there early. I'm guessing maybe 12:00 or 12:30. Hopefully he can give us an exact time so that we can firm up our plans.
Now that there's a meeting, who's going?

If you are interested in meeting to talk about the CMAS chapter possibilities, let's plan to meet at 11:30 AM. That way, we can talk and not have to worry about running into the event time.
Please let pescadero know who you are and that you'll be attending, so he can confirm it with us.
As a side note, if any of you want to set up a table or 1/2 table, we'll give you a 50% discount on the table fee!
They say that indiana water is better for reefing than IL, so you have something to prove!

Who is interested in going? Since this whole thing is Rich's idea, I'm hoping that Rich will be able to attend the meeting. I'd like to go just to find out what our options are, but I don't want anyone to get the impression that I'm trying to take over this project. I'm more than happy to collect names for who will be attending the meeting if they need someone to do that, but I don't want to try to take over what is really Rich's project.
Here's what I've got as a headcount so far:
It looks like BigEvil, Fuppets, and AquaGrizzly all have to work next weekend.
I'd like to go. Seaoflife expressed an interest in going.

You brought up a good idea. It would be helpful for everyone to report their status as a CMAS member now, and whether they'd be interested in being a CMAS member if the CMAS chapter idea works out, and we got something happening in this area.
For example:

Update: Boyd has offered FREE tables for us at the swap meet on Saturday.
If you've got any frags that you'd like to sell, or if you've got any other gear that you'd like to turn over, let me know and I'll get a table lined up for you.
Table rentals normally cost $20 but they'd be FREE for us this weekend.
