The CMAS Board has approved the following items for your consideration:
» CMAS Constitution – Based upon current /future CMAS direction, the following sections of the Constitution & Bylaws need to be changed:
o Article II, Section 2 – Club Income - Under no circumstances may any part of the income of this Club be used to the benefit of any Officer, Trustee or Member.
Ø CMAS Board recommends the addition of the following language to this section: “This shall be limited to direct payment to a member or direct financing of any member’s business operation. This shall not include hosting a club event at their home or co-sponsoring an event for the good of the reef-keeping community”
o Article III, Section 2 – TERM- The CMAS Board recommends the addition of the language in blue to this section: The fiscal year of the Chicagoland Marine Aquarium Society shall be January 1st through December 31st. The Trustees or persons designated by the Board of Directors and not currently a Board of Directors member (if there are no trustees) shall audit all accounts and a complete financial report must be presented to the Bo ard of Directors no later than 90 days following the close of the fiscal year.
o Article VIII, Section 3 – Proposed changes - (Current) All proposed changes will be published in the legal paper of the Club previous to the meeting at which action is to be taken. (The CMAS Board recommends that the above language by replaced with the following language) - All proposed changes will be distributed to the general membership of the Club at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting at which action is to be taken.

o Article III, Section 4 – Student Membership – (Current) Student members shall consist of those members who are under eighteen (18) years of age. Applicants under fourteen (14) years of age cannot apply for membership unless a parent or guardian joins. (The CMAS Board re commends that the above language by replaced with the following language) Student members shall consist of those members who are under eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
o Article III, Section 5 – Commercial Membership –
(Current) Commercial Members shall consist of those individuals holding a financial interest in any phase of the aquarium of tropical fish sales, being either fresh or salt water. Commercial Members may not hold office, regardless of Charter membership affiliation, but they may vote. Commercial Members may not solicit at the General Meetings, or at any other Club sponsored functions.
(The CMAS Board recommends that the above language by replaced with the following language) Commercial Members shall consist of those individuals holding a financial interest in any phase of the tropical fish industry, including dry-goods, fish, coral and other livestock, being either fresh or salt water. Commercial Members may not hold office, regardless of Charter membership affiliation, but they may vote. Commercial Members may not solicit at General Meetings, or at any other Club sponsored functions, unless the sponsored function is pre-approved by the CMAS Board to include commercial selling activities.
o Article III, Section 10 – Sponsor Membership –
(NEW) Sponsor Members shall consist of those individuals holding a financial interest in any phase of the of the tropical fish industry, including dry-goods, fish, coral and other livestock, being either fresh or salt water. Sponsor Members may not hold office, regardless of Charter membership affiliation, and they may not vote. Sponsor Members may not solicit at the General Meetings, or at any other Club sponsored functions, unless the sponsored function is pre-approved by the CMAS Board to include selling activities.

o Article V, Section 3 – Amendments to the Constitution & Bylaws –

» Sponsorship Program –
o The CMAS Board is proposing four classes of CMAS sponsorship, to replace the single existing sponsorship program.
Ø Basic – Listing on LFS page, 10%discount to CMAS members
Ø Silver Sponsorship – Basic plus six “event” listings per year ($10 Mo.)
Ø Gold Sponsorship – Silver + banner & open forum postings. ($20 Mo.)
Ø Platinum Sponsorship – Gold + designated sponsor forum. ($30 Mo.)
» Reef Project for November Frag Swap – The CMAS Board is proposing that we use all CMAS profits (and any member/attendee donations) from the November Frag Swap to fund the Center for Ecosystem Survival and their “Adopt a Reef Program”
Ø The Center for Ecosystem Adopt Survival – Adopt a Reef – 100% of all funds go to the protection of threatened coral reefs. We can adopt two acres for $100. They will provide honorary deeds.
