I just got a new 5lb co2 tank (package deal with Korralin Calcium Reactor) and took it up to the local homebrew store to get it filled.
This place charges $2 per lb. and the guy came back with a total of $3.25
I asked why the price was so low &, if memory serves, he said:
"You see how the bottle is kind of warm from sitting in your car? Well, it would only take 1 1/2 lbs but it's still 1000 gallons. If you bring in the tank chilled we'll be able to fit a little more in there"
I understand why a cold tank could compress more co2 but is it odd for a 5lb tank to take only 1 1/2 lbs when approx. 90 degrees?
When he says "it's still 1000 gallons", does that mean that a 5lb refill would also offer only 1000 gallons?
I've done homebrew but I bottled my own & never messed with co2 and this is my 1st calcium reactor...
Please offer insight!
Thanks,
Mark
