collecting in southwest florida

The west side is shallow and sand for a long way, I've been there and there is not much to collect. Depends on where you are going to be, but the east coast is only a 2 hour drive from most of the west coast and the diving and collecting is so much nicer. Where are you going? If you can get over to the west coast in Broward or Palm Beach counties there are great shore and charter dives, many boat captains let you collect from the boats, but ask first some have restrictions.

You also will need a fishing license to collect in Florida. You can not take any live rock or any stoney corals. Make sure you look up the regualtions prior to booking your dive or collecting. One of the better places to go is the keys.

Thanks guys,

I'm from Orlando and have a license and also have collected many times in lauderdale and the keys.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good places around the Naples area to pick up some critters, shrimp etc. for a new tank.

Thanks again

Great to hear someone from naples in RC, I've heard that clam pass has some critters, not so much on the fish unlees you looking for puffers and filefish. I've been out to wiggins pass looking around at the reefs (some smaller fish mostly big predetory fish )and sand beds there, only my second time out only with snorkle's. Its worth a shot checking out those spots, mostly snails and hermit crabs is what i've found but once again i have only been out twice looking. If you find any good spots let me know. I'm VERY interested
