Does anyone collect their own fish here? I would assume with the large number of reefs there should be plenty of opportunities.

are there any laws to be aware of?

where have you had the most success?

Plenty of fish laws out there don't know ehe links people should chime in pretty soon to help you out. If anything I can point you in somewhat of a Direction type in Google FWC fishing regulations and collecting.

There is a couple people that do. They will chime in here. I believe you can just not the fish that have size limits. Also I'm pretty sure if you have a couple fish No one would bother you. If you take 20 fish at once then maybe you could have a problem. I think Marvin knows most of the laws he would be good person to ask

I collect fish and softies sometimes. You just have to have a current saltwater license. Also don't forget your dive flag and you cannot use a gill net or chemicals. Fish that have a size limit must reach the minimum size limit for you to have possession.

Most of the fish you catch in close around bridges and inlets are not reef safe. There are a handful that are such as neon gobies, some cardinal fish, basslets, and chalk bass.

For most stuff in our aquariums, you just need a SW fishing license, don't break any of the collection rules as Ejazzle mentioned. Some of the orntamental fish like angels have bag limits per day but as long as you follow the rules you should be OK. Having the license is the biggest thing. The rules are on the FWC website, or whatever governing body it is. They also have the rules for collecting corals. Only soft corals are allowed, and you cant take any liverock whatsoever.

Unless you have collected before, it's not as easy as it looks. You need a license, hand net, probe stick, holding bucket, dive flag and scuba gear. You will not be able to catch anything snorkeling. You will probably have to go out on a dive boat. The best advise I can give you is to hook up with someone who has done this before.
