There is also a more accurate "phosphorus" version.
Don't expect a miracle though. I have had my phosphates .2 and below with zero nitrates for months now and still have brown hair algae and less than stellar coloration.
I disagree with the no3 being a problem at 20 ppm. Mine has been floating between 10ppm and 20ppm for a few months and color and growth are great for me. Po4 is another story though. I use the API po4 test and it blows Hanna, Elos high res and Red Sea are the only good ones. I just always run a po4 remover and have a 24 hour light fuge so po4 have never been an issue.
The phosphorus version is actually less accurate compare to the phosphate version. The phosphorus checker has a +/- 5% error margin while the phosphate checker has +/- 4%. I think what you mean to say is the phosphorus checker has higher resolution since it's measured in ppb instead of ppm.
Really? Well, that's a surprise. I would take the Hanna checker over Elos or the Red Sea (basically crap). Is there any reason you believe the Hanna checker does not perform as well as the others?
Hanna is great the only problem is the high repeated cost of calibration packs. It performs just as well if not better than the liquid kits. Elos and Red Sea are the only liquid type kits worth getting. I will be getting a Red Sea was going to get the Hanna checker but I was told about the cost and i the long run the Reds Sea or Elos is a more economical choice IMO.
I guess I never consider $9 for 25 packets of reagents to be expensive (in this hobby). I only test phosphate once a month so $9 will last me almost 2 years. That's something I can live with especially knowing I will get very accurate result.
If you test phosphate a lot, I guess it can be an additional cost.
