Color up

Sorry, i reviewed the thread and see magnesium was discussed, however, didn't see it tested... If I came off arrogant, I apologize in advance. IMO, focus on routine testing, tweaking as needed, balance, and I am quite sure you will do well in the hobby. Good luck...

no harm no foul here, I think BigDawg was advised on additional areas of testing today. Also on some various test kits to use and such. He will soon be on the way to a happy reef!
He will then learn the delicate balancing act!! LOL

Yes, I would say no foul. From the post here we can see only people that care.
Magnesium a great addition to the talk. Not olny with a balance of cal and alk, but a great possiblility of nutrient absortion. After all corals do not only feed of of light they feed off of zooplankton too.
I agree with flow too as it can contribute to better feeding . It also can move a corals structure so it can receive light from multiple sides to feed more zooaxanthellae.

There is a company that actually has an additive to limit, make and or stress a coral to release/bleech it's zooaxanthallea. This is to help with color. And yes it does seem to work.

When we first started to keep coral and wanted bright color we thought excessive light would build zooaxnthellae. This was the thought that UV pigments would build up to reflect the light and give us color.

I would say with some types of stress you may be able to color coral up. You also need to make sure that coral is healthy to take the stress to fight back.

I will be stopping by LFS to look at some of the options presented here. I am currently using Oceans Blend 2 part and was planning to dose with Mag in a couple of weeks when finishing the bottles I have. I thought I read that you should dose it that way somewhere. Who knows where since there is a billion places I may have seen it. Maybe smpolyp has an opinion when I should dose the mag in conjunction with OB 2 part. True that I have not yet tested. Will bring in a sample for testing if I don't buy a kit.
