Color vs Lighting?

All the zoas the LFS gets in look dark, rusty brown. Lots of different polyp sizes, but all the same dark brown. Could this be from shipping and then being held under low level Normal output fluorescents? Is there a chance one of those colonies would color up under good lighting?

I'd really love to get some of the awsome blues and greens I see on the forum, but don't want to end of with a tank full of drab ones trying.

Thanks.

you have any pcitures of these zoa's.

yes zoa's can color morph in the right light. sounds like you have some normal button polyps but even some of them under the right light can show colors.

these i have under my MH 175 15k with t5's super UV lighting. as you can see they are tinted with a nice green. if i turn off my t5 actinics then they are more brown and maybe a hint of green. i frag some and put them in my nano with pc's and they are brown with little to no green tint to them. those are just normal button poly's. they only need the right actinic to bring out the green.

i have had a bunch of other nice zoa's color morph, come in light red and after a couple months under my MH they have brighten up to a nice almost neon red with or with out my actinics.

so yes inturn lighting has a lot to do with
1. how your zoa's might look
2. how they might color up or morph.

Thanks!
Since these are still in the LFS I don't have any photos. I did buy one colony right after they came in that were a deep brick red in the store and under my 10,000k PC and actinic they showed a bright green mouth, but no other color change...so far.

A lot of LFS have adequate lighting over a huge very deep tank... One of the LFS in my area has a ton of zoos and every zoo reaches for light, and they actually think they are long stemmed... I mean there are a few long stemmed but not these... I have several frags from there that when i get them they are brown and rusty colored, after a month or so they are bright vivid colors... I have a SPS frag that I have had for 2 weeks and went from brown to a bright blue...

Moral of my story, no matter what they look like in there tanks they will most definately change color in your tank..

460's make the colors pop more than 420s right? or is that backwards? what t5 actinic is it that you have making the green stand out so much?

i am running 1 super actinic,1 aquamedic blue actinic. the Super Actinic R 54W - UV lighting, is the one bring out all the green on those and brightens up all the other zoa's or bring other colors out. note they are not that color in my aquapod which has pc's 1 6500k, 1 10000k , 1 420 and 1 460.

i forget which one it is, i believe its the 420
this is the lights , the purple looking one on top is the one that make them really pop. the UV lighting super actinic.
