probably would be more tactful if this subject was broached informally first and be brought up at the next meeting. but being accused or mildly suggests whether or not a accounting mistake was made is already a bell already rung remember this is only a fish club for fun and we dont really have to follow strict parlimentary procedures here...lets just have fun..it is only 20 bucks for god sake or is it 40..i forgot...as much as paul and the officers has brought to the club, i think it is worth it...and if you think it is hard...try to run for an office next time..

I have to say that I do not run b/c of the obvious reasons time, etc. but it is more than that. I recognize that Paul is more knowledgable about the science of this hobby than me and so can be more helpful. That is great and to be frank I would not want to deal with a bunch of people like us.

Mike, with all due respect, this isn't about the officers not wanting input. It is about you, perhaps, asking a reasonable question in an UNREASONABLE way. That is how this started. And that is all this is.

Please, back off, consider what has happened, consider what you have said, and consider the reasoning others have offered you.

Rather than getting involved and responding to this with something that should be on a different thread *hint hint*, I'll take the time to stand up, move on from this pettiness and go forward with the original thought. If you don't like that, than give me a PM and we can discuss it.



pwhitby: I'll be glad to start up another thread. Give me a moment to get things organized this morning.

captbunzo: While having a QT Demo is a great idea, I'm honestly not a large fan of bringing it to every meeting or every three meetings for that matter. On the other hand, I propose a couple slightly different approaches.

Proposal 1: Create the demo as scheduled, do a write up for the webpage, and bring the demo back to the meeting on an requested basis. If it happens to be every meeting, so be it. At least then we will know that someone will definitely enjoy and learn from it. I'm sure that we have enough members to back up doing the presentation if the original presenter is unable to make it.

Proposal 2: While this won't work this time around since serra is bringing her personal QT Setup. Is there a possibility in making a demo from scratch and having it as a door prize or raffle piece? It's a thought, but doesn't have to be acted on.

serra: I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. Just let me know what you need a hand with and I'll work on it.

Why not give away one every quarter or so as door prizes for anyone who needs it.

I can put a tank, light and HOB filter and heater for about 25'sh.

I've thought about the QT tank door prize idea and think it would be a great expression of the principals of the club. Sounds like fun!

And as for the "on a requested" basis, I say again - people are NOT going to request to see what they do not know they need.

It is such a simple thing to bring it to meetings, just trust me on this for a bit. Let's try it for a first meeting, then another sometime early next year, etc. See how it turns out. I think it will get about 5 people per meeting who wonder over and really consider the QT tank idea. IMHO, that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

We should definately, IMHO, have one at the January meeting. I like the idea of having a giveaway QT tank (or 2 or 3) at that meeting.... I'll be glad to fund the 10g tanks. I'd love to get some of those acrylic ones from whowever was selling them up there....

I think that could be nice. I actually do not really QT things... Don't stone me! I know I need to. It is the safest thing. And I do when starting a new tank with the rock, sand, etc. But I am always apprehensive in building things for fear of not doin it the best way. So I do not have a QT tank (also I have a lot on my plate right now with my different fish projects). It would be awesome to win one, but with the odds of that happening, it would be nice to at least see one built and in action.

I suppose I'm not the most confident reefer, so little ways of making people like me not overwhelmed is a very great quality in a club. It's can be quite vexatious when starting this hobby. I still don't feel like I can get a handle on the different lighting, skimmers, powerheads... It is quite tedious learning what all can kill your fish, haha. So thanks for remembering newcomers like me. We all have to start with the basics. I find a little presentation of a QT to be helpful.

I see where you are going with this, but if we intend to place a write up of the process (most likely headed by serra [thanks again]) and place it on the webpage, then what would be the harm of placing a little note/link/email that works something like this.

"If you would like to see this first hand at a meeting, click here to request a demonstration" and have it link somewhere such as the word Here to open up an email box that the person fills out when and why they would like to see the demo, and have it email the person in charge (president, webmaster, presenter, or others in any combination). We can also list dates that the demonstration will be done on the writeup page so people will avoid constantly sending emails if they know in advance when the next one will be.

It seems like we are trying to make the web page a great source of information, and this would be right up the alley. Not only can they read the, they get the chance to see it when they are ready.

I'm not trying to criticize here, but just stating that it's not as hard as it seems. FWIW, you are doing AMAZING work with the website and lots of information is up there and will slowly be added. :thumbsup:

Last time I made a comment like that, I left the meeting with 7 new coral frags and a gift certificate the next meeting. Odds are a little better than you think, and certainly bettter than winning the state lottery.

And FWIW, last time we had a demo built at a meeting (a 10g refugium) I went out and built one the very next day, and it completely changed how easy this hobby was for me. I had no intentions of building a refugium or even purchasing one until I saw Travis' demo. I'm all in favor of this idea, weather it be at a meeting or at least on the comas webpage.

Well at least end up with a good QT aricle on the website and the demo once at a meeting. But like I say above, if it goes well once or twice, maybe folks will be more convinced of the benefit of having it the multiple times.
