Come out of hiding!

Hopefully it was an RC member who bought the True Personifer off DD last night.

Bunch of people, including myself, have been trying to get a gauge on how many True Personifers are in the USA but it seems like people don't want to participate :(

If your out there, come out of hiding!

I've got one. I got the first female they sent out. Can't remember how long it has been but a while now. She is doing well, but still has no black line in the tail. I would love for it to appear, but no luck yet. I have a large Conspic in the tank that is obviously a very similar fish to the personifer and I am wondering if that is keeping the black stripe from developing. One reason for this thought is a story copps told. He had an emperor male and female together in his fowlr and the female never fully developed the adult markings. one day the female slipped passed the egg crate divider and within a week or so started to change color! I always thought this was crazy, but now im wondering if I have a similar scenario in my tank.

To test my theory, Im going to pull my personifer out and place her in a QT tank to see if there is a change in coloration. The other thing about mine is she has become very light in color, almost pale which is a little concerning. So while in QT im going to put some meds in there just in case, even though she has already been through QT before entering the display tank.

My Personifer's black line comes and goes, and right now there is not even a sign of black in the tail. The only black lined tail that seem to stick are Jawsee's Personifers. I would also love to figure this out.

Can you post pics of yours?

I was lucky to attain one from DD about 1 1/2 yr ago with a slightly black line in the tail. It was 2" at the time and now about 4-4.5". The black tail has maintained the same coloration but the face has developed a much different coloration than from my false personifer.

Ryan, I noticed when either of my true or false personifiers are under the weather or stressed out from the tank mates, they do get pale, like a light brownish. This is when I soak the food in some Maracyn.

how can you tell the difference between males/females with the true personifers? is it the same distinctions male/female like meredithi's? oval body/face markings/etc for the male?

so would the one yesterday be a female true personifer?

I believe so. However I know the face does not get as blue as the Meredithi.

Looks good Ryan.

I hope someone can figure out this black line thing, or lack there of.

If someone has an answer, please chime in!

Mine is around 6" and has a very thick black line through the tail. It is a transitioning male as the mask is comin in and the gill spines are elongating. The other tell tale sign for the male vs the female with angels is the shape. Females are usually more round and the males are oval and longer (like a stretched limo).

As for the black stripe, that is a mystery. All the TRUE personifiers that I have ever seen have the black stripes through the tail. There is no fading and no color loss. My personifier was brought directly from W. Australia and it cost me more wholesale than the ones being sold now.

Remember, the first personifet that was sold in LA was listed for $1300...not $499. That should be a telltale clue on the quality of the ones being released.

So if the ones coming in with the full black bar are "true" personifers, what are the ones coming in with the faded bar?

Are these Personifer X Meredithi crosses? I thought these two species were separated by some sort of water body or land mass.
