Come with me on my Custom 77 Gallon setup

The tank looks great!!!

I have a Nikon D50 as well. My pictures are getting better, but it certainly is not point and shoot. You seem to be doing well with the camera.

Looking great. I must say your photography skills have really gotten good (not that they were bad before :) ).

Or maybe Psammocora, or Pocillopora, or Pavona.

The other one from the local reefer is a Scripps Acropora. It is a fast grower.

So either way, Keith you still don't know what it is  .

We need a close up picture that is nice and focused. :)

I'll try to get as close up as I can get on Thursday. Have to go out of town for business.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Keith

I did a few water tests today.

pH 8.22
Nitrate 0.02
Calcium 443.76 ppm
Alk 6.9 dKh :eek2: I am going to brew up some of Randy DIY three part. I think I will go with the second one that doesn't rise pH too much. I definately need to raise my Alk.

I'll do a mag test when I get home.

A strange thing happened to my ReefKeeper 2 last night. We had a BBQ and I was in the back yard from about 3:30pm to 10:30 pm. Normally my second MH turns off at 4:00 pm, well when I came in in 10:30 pm it was still ON!!:eek2: :eek2:

Thankfully my chiller was keeping up with the heat!

I went into the programing and turned off the channel that controled that light, but nothing! Light was still on. So I just unplugged the MH and went to bed.

This morning I used the fuge lights to test the channel and it was still on!

I unplugged the controler from the outlets and plugged it back in. It seems to be working correctly again, but I am going to keep a close eye on it.

I am also going to post in their forum and see if anyone else has had this same problem.

Keith

True, I incorperate automation as much as possible but, I am pretty hands on (not your set it and forget it kind of guy) so I am constantly checking the equipment to make sure it's doing what it's supposed to do. I guess where I would get nervous is going away on vacation.
Hope they get back to you soon and fix the problem.

Dan

I am also a hands on kind. I do have to go out of town every so often and that is what I worry about.

The guy I have look after my tank is great as far as, top off water, feeding and is very dependable, but if things went wrong I doubt he would know what to do.

It has taken two days but finally got to page 22. Awesome job on you tank.

Now with your RK2 issue, I had an issue with the AC Jr a few months back. I know it's a different product but the cause may be related. Reminds me of a comment Marc made several pages back about interfernce issues he had with his pH probe. It may or may not be the answer but worth looking into. The thread is below FYI.

I'll definitely be following along on your progress - which has been great. Happy reefing.

I got a small Sailfin Tang yesterday. He is about 2" long and 3" tall with his fins up!

He didn't last night, but ate Nori when I put it in the tank this morning.

I think the second picture is better. Beautiful little guy.

Thanks, so you have seen all of my mistakes along the way.

It has been an adventure and I love enjoying my tank.

The reefkeeper 2 is acting completely normal. I think it might have been a heatr issue. It was sitting on top of one the MH ballast's. We'll see and thanks for the link.

I have to say that I am glad I didn't get the AC jr. The program on the RK2 is totally simple compared with the AC jr.

Keith

Not a problem Keith. AC Jr isn't too bad programming (granted I'm an engineer though with some programming background as well so ounderstanding it was relatively quick). I also wasn't looking for all the bells and whistles when I got the controller, so it fits right for what I currently want it to do.

Who hasn't made mistakes along the way with their tanks? But reading threads like yours is informative - while entertaining:) - and people appreciate the time and effort put in, not only on the tank, but the effort of sharing it with all here on RC.

Beautiful Sailfin.

-Joe

The new Sailfin Tang is doing great. He gets along well with his tank mates and is eating Nori consistantly and greedly. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when I feed him.

Thanks Joe,

Keith

I'm thinking about getting an Emerald Crab to help with getting rid of bubble algae. Any body have an opinion? Good, bad, indifferent?

do they really eat bubble algae?

Keith

Hey Keith, gorgeous sailfin! Does it have it's fins up a lot? I have a hard time getting shots of mine with it's fins up cuz it doesn't seem to do it too often. It's the biggest fish in the tank already, so I think it feels pretty comfortable... But have you noticed that they keep their fins extended all night? Every time I catch a glimpse of mine in the dark it's fins are up.

Scary thing with the RK2. Did you see my thread? My RK1 blew it's fuse. Not so bad cuz it just meant no lights and no fans/heaters. Took me a few days to get new fuses though so was doing the manual lights/fans thing.

I've heard that it is the male emerald crabs (two big claws) that eat the bubble algae. My sailfin ate a piece of bubble algae that got loose from my tweezers the other day. I just find a tiny bit here and there occasionally, maybe my tangs are keeping it at bay!
