Come with me on my Custom 77 Gallon setup

Sorry Randy

Thanks Marc

I think I'll have to buy refills for my LaMotte Alk and Calcium Test kits if I'm going to test as many times as Randy did to get the right setting.:D

Well, I only did that for a little while. I'm down to about once per week now... :rolleye1:

Maybe this weekend I'll aspire to do a water change and clean the skimmer :D

The first thing I did was let it dose at full speed for a day into seperate containers to see how close the volume was for each channel. If one channel is significantly less volume than the other, you might want to trim a tiny bit of the flexible tubing off, which causes it to be tighter against the drive wheels and will increase that channel's output slightly. Once you have the channels putting out approx. the same volume, you can start playing with the rate to get the volume you need - still with water. I spent about a week doing this stuff, I wasn't in a hurry about it.

So after I started dosing with the pump, I still wanted to test it every few days for a while to make sure I had the volume right, and I did have to tweak it a little but it's working really well now.

I changed mine - it was dosing 24/7 but now I have it dosing from 11 PM to 11 AM. I want to try to offset the PH swing a little, my PH can use a boost overnight... I'm not sure how much difference it is making but I think it must be helping a little at least.

Thanks for the run down. I surprisingly never thougt to use water to make sure the channels were the same.

The Six-Line is still chasing the Mandarins. The male doesn't seem to care as he is out cruising the rocks picking at pods. The female seems to stay in a corner and pick at the sand in a small area around the corner. I'm a little worried about her. :hmm2:

The Rainford's seems to hide in a rock that has a hole out the bottom for access to the sand bed.

I'm hoping for the best. Any one heard or seen a Six-Line be agressive?

I realize I didn't complete my point - I believe hiding in a hole in the rockwork is normal/instinctive behavior for gobies.

Good to hear.

So at 5 am this morning everything was working great. After my shower at 6:30 am my Reefkeeper 2 was dead!!! :eek2: :eek2:

I don't know why it would blow a fuse, no lights were on just the basic pumps.

Yep, probably a fuse. The fuse is in the outlet strip and is hard to find, but you can order them from Mouser.com or get a couple of freebies from DA.

EDIT - I forgot you have the RK2, I think they switched to an easier to find fuse. You can get them at RadioShack. I bought some there by mistake that don't work with the RK1.

Do they have RadioShack up there ? :D

I posted on Reefkeepers forum. And asked the rating of the fuse. All I had time for this morning was to pull out a power strip and make sure the return pump, closed loop, skimmer, and VHOs were on.

I did check the fuse but it doesn't have a glass body so I couldn't tell visually if the fuse is blown. I'll pull out the multimeter tonight. Unfortunately I can't be home until 8:30 pm tonight, Master's Class.

Well, it was the fuse. But the strange thing is that it was the heater that made it blow.

This evening I put in a new fuse. The only things plugged in were the 2 MH (not on) and the heater (not on) and it blew the fuse instantly. So I unplug everything, replace the fuse again, and it stays on. Plug in the heater and pop! But the heater channel isn't even on!! I just don't understand.

So replace the fuse Again! Plug in everything except the heater and it is back up and running. Who knows what happened to the heater to make it do this. That D*** heater was only a couple of months old. I'll have to check, but it might even by under warranty.

I'm Tired Night All

Keith

Well if the channel is off, you shouldn't get a blown fuse! I'd try putting a light or something on that channel to test it...

It was much colder here than it has been so I was worried about not having a heater last night. I found an old glass heater and plugged than in to channel 1. turns out channel 1 is stuck on!

I tried to turn it off, different modes, I unplugged the remote to reset the unit. Nothing but solid on on channel 1.

So just for the night I switched my Closed Loop Pump to channel 1 and the heater to channel 5. Not the best, but it worked.

I'll look at it more when I get home tonight.
