comline surface skimmer

Hello Roger, I have a small marine fish only tank holding about 130 litres of water. I am using a comline cm 01 for filtration. The problem is the surface skimmer is not working properly. Water is flowing in on the surface but a thin layer of muck on the water surface does not seem to be moving. Please advise. Thanks.

Try sliding the lower intake strainer over the intake tube so it is closed off slightly, the flow restriction will increase the surface skimming rate. Make sure that the flow assists rather than prevents surface skimming. For example if you aim a powerhead in a certain position it will form a dam and all the scum on one side cannot cross the rippled surface to be removed. Powerheads play a big part in churning and removing surface film and with sufficient and correct surface movement the problem will be solved.
