Beach dive

Turn east off I-95 onto Commercial Blvd. Go straight 3.3 miles.

After crossings the intersection with A1A, go one block and turn left on El Mar.

In one block, turn right into parking area after stop sign.

The one mile stretch of beach is considered one of the state's best beach diving sites.

The best diving is 100 yards nort or south the pier. Remember you cannot dive near any pier in Florida waters.

This is also a good place for night dive from the beach.

Just got back from a great day out there, maybe I'll upload some pics.
I actually didn't follow those directions ^, what we did was take Commercial east till A1A, then south two blocks till the 7-11 (Datura), then hang a left there and park at the end at the meters.
Saw a nurse shark, a tarpon, and all the other usual critters :)

WOW I go there to snorkle all the time but i've never seen a sea turtle, I did get to interact with some reef squid last time though....

media hound any updates with some pics? i go to westpalm alot for diving but am thinking of going to where you went. do you think its worth the drive?

Oh yea its worth it. I have the pics, I need to upload them. Today I will make that a priority... hang in there.
It's worth the drive, definitely an awesome dive. The reef is huge, you can spend several days there and keep seeing new things. And its full of life. Plus its at about 12-16/18 feet so thats got some perks. I was told 18 feet but I only clocked 16 ft max depth where I was (straight out at Datura and a tad south where it tapers).
When you go out, you will see some rubble - pass that, thats not the main attraction. Go past that, and you'll see the bigger reef beyond it. You'll basically be just past or right about at the tip of the pier.

BTW there's a beachfront hotel right there at the parking lot, plenty of others in the area as well, so if you wanted to make a weekend out of it, you could very easily. And a freshwater shower open to the public at the loading ramp as well.

Definately! It shouldn't hang on anything, plus it's very shallow and the current should be manageable.
Pics as promised :)
