I'm at wits end and readdy to walk AWAY from this forum. Comments made in this thread and Originally posted by firefish2020 ]this thread are just blatant flat out not right. Flaming on people is jusgt flat out wrong no matter who the #(#$ you are or think you are period.

Hey everyone calm down, we seem to get these shake ups every couple of years. Let's just strive to break the cycle.

Im really at a loss to understand where all the negativity is coming from guys. I really don't know what you want on this matter, I gave in and made a fare compromise. There is no "flaming" that I can see going on. We need to set up some REAL ground rules that will govern things like this in the future. We will be doing this tomorrow I have graciously invited anyone who wants to speak about this face to face to show up handle it in person rather than here on this forum where things are seriously getting misconstrued to the point of insanity IMO.

If anyone is sensing an attack you are way off base, this needs to be handled in person like adults not here where all of our actions only act as a deterrent to new members who have no clue what's going on. I for one am with the new members on this ????

If you really don't like this thread then hit the button that says "unsubscribe to this thread", that way you wont be tempted to read it.

In my thread you referred to Piper, I was selling my coral like everyone else on this forum does without any haste. If this happened in the RC seller forum the heckling would have been deleted by a mod and a warning sent. We are in a private forum therefor it is up to us to insure fair practices for those selling there wears here. No one wants there thread hijacked or sabotaged IMO.

WOW! This thread seems to get meaner and vicious by the day. There are a lot of good people in this club wondering what tomorrow's meeting will bring! Constructive criticism of the rules trying to work out legal issues on the "do's and don'ts" is acceptable and understandable. WE need to know our boundaries with RC. Thankfully "the mod" clarified the rules and lifted our club back up to good standings. The lack of knowledge is ignoranance. I learned from this information that was provided as I'm sure other's did. We have been enlightened.

I am a part of this group because I love the hobby. When I came into this group I was not welcomed with open arms. Some were VERY friendly and nice...I will not go any further. I have missed one meeting since. Ron and I have discussed the meetings at length trying to build a larger member base. There has been so much time put into this thread .....look at the time spent in the meeting thread! You can read WORDS.... all you want and depending on your mood or temperment that is how they will be perceived. USE YOUR WORDS IN PERSON! It is a lot easier to read body language to understand where people are coming from as opposed to reading into something typed on a screen.

We need participation in our meeting thread. Our meetings need to be pre-planned, thought out, and ran on a schedule. We are lacking the participant that gives back, no matter how much you help ....it really does count and it affects all of us as a whole group.

Please volunteer to do something. Whether at tomorrow's or a future meeting. We have a great opportunity to reach many saltwater hobbyist and can draw folks from up to at least 200 miles away. WE are "IT" in WV as far as I know. Is there another club? Great prizes have been donated to this meeting and the past meetings. The LFS in the area are very generous to us. All of the prizes and drawings have been moved towards the conclusion of the meeting.

My goal is to make everyone feel welcome in a family friendly enviornment. Saltwater is a habit forming, life altering, moneysucking hobby. I LOVE IT! It will be a while before my husband feels as good about my hobby as I do! The broad knowledge base that our group holds is phenomenal. As in life we learn from our mistakes. The sharing of this knowledge base and the friendships made..... along with the exotic colorful beauties we put in our tanks makes this a great club to be a part of. I am proud to be a part of a great club. I will strive to work hard to grow our member base. We as a club will do our part in learning about this amazing hobby and sharing our knowledge with all whom we encounter! See ya all tomorrow!

BY THE WAY** we have asked for information to make nametags, these nametags are your ticket to a door prize. I have received 16 names!

This is addressed to Crabfan:

We will be discussing this face to face Sunday I personally invite you to attend so we can break down some of these perceived walls on both ends, shake hands and come to mutual understanding on this matter.

Although I've been to 4 meets in the past couple years, Sundays are really bad for me.

But I'd gladly shake hands with you or anyone else here anytime Ron. There aren't any walls on this end.

WOW! This thread seems to get meaner and vicious by the day.

Since I'm physically located in between Charleston WV and Columubus OH, I read the CORA (Central Ohio Reefer) board just as often as I do this one. It seems to be very cool group, with little (if any) sniping, biting, or drama. I've got some very strong opinions on exactly why that is.

I'd hope my opinions are objective and absolutely would NOT refect on any particular individual here, but they could be perceived that way, so I'll not go in to any great detail. Sometimes what you choose not to express says a heck of a lot more of your character than the things you do.

If anyone wants to follow another club board for a while to form their OWN opinions, I think it would very worthwhile to you personally.

Constructive criticism of the rules trying to work out legal issues on the "do's and don'ts" is acceptable and understandable.
WE need to know our boundaries with RC.

That is one thing you will notice when you follow other boards/clubs. It seems like there are just RC boundaries, no additional rules. I don't understand why there are CVRC boundaries that have to be explained. This is very confusing to everyone, perhaps causes angry feelings, and it shouldn't be that way.

When I expressed and provided examples to what other clubs do, I felt this expression was dismissed with the attitude, well the CVRC doesn't care what other clubs do. Maybe I was incorrect, and I'm totally off base, but that is how I percieved it.

When my parents told me "do what you want and see what it gets ya" (those are MY parents words - and just a random example), well that didn't make me feel very good. As the mod observed, there seems to be stealth things being said here. That certainly isn't constructive.

Will a whole set of "do's and don'ts" or a bouncer at the meets (which to me was great humor and very funny by the way!!) be proposed? For goodness sake, I would certainly hope not.

I am a part of this group because I love the hobby.

Abosolutely! I can examine myself ruthlessly, and I know why I'm here. When I came to the first meet, I was excited to see so many people digging on reef tanks - it was so cool and encouraging to me personally.

There is a lot of talk on other reef boards where people buy a $100 coral, and as soon as they can break it into 20 frags at $20 apiece they move it out to pay for their toys. If I did something like this then IMO it would be unethical, and isn't what I'd personally want to be about.

On the other hand, if we coordinated to do this as a club and everyone got a frag of a really rare piece for $5 per person, that would totally rock! It would save 20 pieces from being collected, truly conserving the reefs. And given the rarity and prices of unusual things around here it could potentially be a GREAT idea.

Hey Ron - Remember when I got a piece of the blue candy cane that no one around here had? It cost me something like $150. It was a large colony with maybe 20 heads, but was really fragile and got broken in shipping. I gave you a 2 or 3 head piece (and you eventually paid me back with a really sweet blasto!). I gave Jim a 2 or 3 head piece. Seems like I gave pieces to a couple other people (yep folks....GAVE with no charge). I traded Matt a 2 or 3 head piece for a frag of Bob. That's what I'd honestly strive to be about guys.

Then I go to swaps and people have common green striped MUSHROOMS for $15 or 20 a polyp? Thumbnail sized frags of pretty common ORA stuff for $25 or 30 bucks? I know this is an expensive hobby, but I'd be embarassed. People pulling this stunt SHOULD be embarassed.

Please consider this when you are pricing your frags for tommorrow. Resolve to TRADE at least one with someone, resolve to GIVE at least one away to your best friend here.

Love the hobby.

A bit more background. Our swaps used to be just that, swaps. There were never any sales intended. After people got everything they needed or wanted there were no more trades so it was suggested that we have an auction for the remaining corals. That's how the auctions started. You want to talk about ridiculous , exorbitant prices you should have been to one of those auctions. People will pay what ever they want if they want it. During some of the auctions people would sneak off into the parking lot and sell stuff. Anyway after the auctions were cancelled everyone wanted to be able to do table sales like at a real frag swap.

So when we had room to do so we did. Prices are set by the sellers and they are responsible for there coral. I can not speak about anyone else selling anything. I do know that if it has a high price and it's on my table it will not disappoint anyone. I have never to this day had an issue of someone complaining that a frag they got from me had any problems.

I used to think pea size frags that were $100 + dollars were ridiculous too until I learned about the lineage. A mutt is cheap, loveable and cute but it's not a purebred and that is the exact same thing that happens with some of those crazy priced corals, its the lineage your a paying for mostly. I don't personally know anyone who is getting rich off of any of these swaps but I know a lot have made enough to help build there dream systems, buy a new coral, and yes some do indeed buy and split up frags with friends and I see nothing wrong with that.

BTW: Drop by anytime for the hand shake :)

Okay there was supposed to be a follow up to this and a new post sying what was okay and what wasn't. I haven't seen it.

I believe Amy (coralreefer) is still researching the RC Rules before Posting the do's and don'ts. At least that was my understanding at the meeting. Give her some time, I am sure she is dotting all the i's and crossing the t's.

Just My 2 Cents worth

It is still being worked out as stated and will be made public as soon as it's finished, we will do this right or we wont do it. Be patient.

We're working on it. I've been pretty busy the last few days and haven't gotten a chance to get back with Ron to hammer somethings out.

In a few days there will be a list of supporting stores at the top of our forum. The list is being worked out and will be a general list of shops that actively support the CVRC. This thread will be locked and is an information only thread. At any time any LFS wishing to support the group and thus be listed will have that option. After conferring with many people on the matter of how best to handle future posts on our forum regarding commercial establishments, we have come up with these basic rules that we ask you to please abide by.

1. You may make the group aware of "super sales" and special events only. Posts about huge sales, shipments, outstanding livestock arrivals etc are fine. A good example would be like the sale Jim had a few weeks back with the $ a gallon tank sale. That is not an ordinary sale event and is in our opinion post worthy.

2. Do not post "basic" events on a regular basis it may be considered commercial or "for hire" and may lead to warnings and or banishment from the forum.

3. No posting of events from store owners, workers, or anyone receiving any compensation from store owners to promote a commercial event or sale.

4. No negative posts regarding any LFS's should be made. We discussed and researched this over and over and found no clubs or groups on RC that actively promote the "bashing" of any LFS. The official supporter list will list the stores that support our group. Any other LFS not listed should speak volumes for those new to the group. If someone asks about a non-listed LFS please just keep it positive and respond with something like. "Well I don't know about that place but XXXX is/are my favorite LFS because XXXX...."

5. By posting, the poster assumes all responsibility for his/her post(s) and any potential liabilities associated with it. The CVRC or RC are not responsible for any negative posts and or damages incurred by such negative posts.

These are the rules, we ask that you please respect and follow them. We feel that these new measures will vastly improve your experience at our local area shops and provide a valuable source of information for all hobbyists in our area and our group.
