This is addressed to Crabfan:
We will be discussing this face to face Sunday I personally invite you to attend so we can break down some of these perceived walls on both ends, shake hands and come to mutual understanding on this matter.

Although I've been to 4 meets in the past couple years, Sundays are really bad for me.
But I'd gladly shake hands with you or anyone else here anytime Ron. There aren't any walls on this end.

WOW! This thread seems to get meaner and vicious by the day.
Since I'm physically located in between Charleston WV and Columubus OH, I read the CORA (Central Ohio Reefer) board just as often as I do this one. It seems to be very cool group, with little (if any) sniping, biting, or drama. I've got some very strong opinions on exactly why that is.
I'd hope my opinions are objective and absolutely would NOT refect on any particular individual here, but they could be perceived that way, so I'll not go in to any great detail. Sometimes what you choose not to express says a heck of a lot more of your character than the things you do.
If anyone wants to follow another club board for a while to form their OWN opinions, I think it would very worthwhile to you personally.

Constructive criticism of the rules trying to work out legal issues on the "do's and don'ts" is acceptable and understandable.
WE need to know our boundaries with RC.
That is one thing you will notice when you follow other boards/clubs. It seems like there are just RC boundaries, no additional rules. I don't understand why there are CVRC boundaries that have to be explained. This is very confusing to everyone, perhaps causes angry feelings, and it shouldn't be that way.
When I expressed and provided examples to what other clubs do, I felt this expression was dismissed with the attitude, well the CVRC doesn't care what other clubs do. Maybe I was incorrect, and I'm totally off base, but that is how I percieved it.
When my parents told me "do what you want and see what it gets ya" (those are MY parents words - and just a random example), well that didn't make me feel very good. As the mod observed, there seems to be stealth things being said here. That certainly isn't constructive.
Will a whole set of "do's and don'ts" or a bouncer at the meets (which to me was great humor and very funny by the way!!) be proposed? For goodness sake, I would certainly hope not.

I am a part of this group because I love the hobby.
Abosolutely! I can examine myself ruthlessly, and I know why I'm here. When I came to the first meet, I was excited to see so many people digging on reef tanks - it was so cool and encouraging to me personally.
There is a lot of talk on other reef boards where people buy a $100 coral, and as soon as they can break it into 20 frags at $20 apiece they move it out to pay for their toys. If I did something like this then IMO it would be unethical, and isn't what I'd personally want to be about.
On the other hand, if we coordinated to do this as a club and everyone got a frag of a really rare piece for $5 per person, that would totally
rock! It would save 20 pieces from being collected, truly conserving the reefs. And given the rarity and prices of unusual things around here it could potentially be a GREAT idea.
Hey Ron - Remember when I got a piece of the blue candy cane that no one around here had? It cost me something like $150. It was a large colony with maybe 20 heads, but was really fragile and got broken in shipping. I gave you a 2 or 3 head piece (and you eventually paid me back with a really sweet blasto!). I gave Jim a 2 or 3 head piece. Seems like I gave pieces to a couple other people (yep folks....GAVE with no charge). I traded Matt a 2 or 3 head piece for a frag of Bob. That's what I'd honestly strive to be about guys.
Then I go to swaps and people have common green striped MUSHROOMS for $15 or 20 a polyp? Thumbnail sized frags of pretty common ORA stuff for $25 or 30 bucks? I know this is an expensive hobby, but I'd be embarassed. People pulling this stunt
SHOULD be embarassed.
Please consider this when you are pricing your frags for tommorrow. Resolve to TRADE at least one with someone, resolve to GIVE at least one away to your best friend here.
Love the hobby.
