commerson angler

Anybody know of an LFS in the Chicago area that carries commerson anglers, and how much they sell for?

I just answered a Q on WeWebMedia on them. What size tank are you planning for it? They aren't good on tank mates.

Haha--that was actually me asking the question. I sent a follow-up earlier tonight. I have a 75 gallon tank waiting for him that's currently empty.

That's funny... I kinda had a felling that was you! Small world!

In answer to your 2nd Q at WWM: It's not really the getting eaten that's the problem, it's the getting stung. I've red several times about the frogfish being stung fatally by a lionfish. That's why I do't have a FuManchu lion with my Wartfin frogfish. I
really wanted one! :(

Personally, I wouldn purchase a hard-to-feed fish like the angler, online. I'd want to pick out my own color & make sure it was eating 1st.

Thanks for the input. I didn't think getting eaten was an issue either, but I was at another forum earlier today where someone was discussing this issue and there were a couple people claiming to have years of experience with anglers, insisting that the frog and lion would try to eat each other.

I would prefer to buy it in person, but I'm just not sure where to go. I got a sargassum frog from Marine Depot about a year ago, after I couldn't find one in a store (at least not for what I would consider to be a reasonable price), and that turned out pretty well. I had it eating forzen foods within a week and it was perfectly healthy until it died after a long power outage. Maybe that good experience has artificially inflated my expectations for online ordering with this species, but I'm definitely keeping it as an option.

I'm glad you had luck with that one. Sorry you lost it. :(
Aren't there many more color options for the Commerson though? Unless you don't care. Maybe it's just cause I'm a girl... I don't know if it's worth saving $$$ on a fish though, if it's not gonna eat for you & you can't pick out the color.

There is a store in Hammond, IN that has a frog fish. Not sure which one or if the little guy is even for sale. He is yellow with purple markings. Sort of looks like an arrow on his side. I can get you a phone number if you want.
