KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - A Monroe County commissioner wants to ban the sale of coral in the Florida Keys.

Commissioner Glenn Patton says selling the underwater find gives the impression that it's cheap and plentiful. He plans to propose the ordinance at the County Commission meeting today.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently listed elkhorn and staghorn corals as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

But a communications manager for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary says most of the coral sold at local shops comes from the Pacific Ocean.
