I don't intend to start any scuffles here on RC, but it seems like there are a lot of misconceptions and mispronunciations when it comes to our hobby. So, as a perfectionist, I thought I'd start a thread to help clear up some of these incorrect terms. Please, do not be offended by any of these corrections, and constructive critisicm is always a plus. I'm sure we have all made these mistakes, including me. The first 3 I have for the list are:
1) Chaetomorpha: pronounced "kay-toe", not "cheeto"
2) Coralline: pronounced "kora-lynn", not "coral-line"
3) When listing a specific organism, the Genus is capitalized and the species is not capitalized. Scientifically these are italicized, but we won't get into that. ex. Yellow Tang: Zebrasoma flavescens
and french, feel free to list the one you just caught me on
