Compact skimmers?

I need a skimmer for my 55g and i'm wondering if there are any good skimmers that are short... I've got 19" from the bottom of my stand to the top so i'm guessing i want something around 16" I was looking at the tunze skimmer but that thing is too much...

Thank you,

Nick

I have the same problem w/ my 60g and short cabinet. I don't know the specs now (height of cabinet) but the only decent skimmer I could find for my sump was the ASM Mini G. It skims okay... I tried the HOB Coralife 220 but after a couple of floods (damn thing overflows) I didn't want to chance it. Good luck finding a skimmer.

I don't think the Tunze 9005/9010 fits in that space. I purchased the 9010 and it didn't fit. You need room to remove the cup... you can always install the Tunze in the tank... I'm going to use my Tunze for my other tank build.

I have a Tunze 9010 and after making some careful measurements, I believe that it may be too tall. It takes 20" from top to bottom to remove the collection cup. I believe that the Tunze 9005 ($255) has a collection cup that is 2 inches shorter and should work in 18" of vertical space. I assume that you will place the 9005 in your sump tank so the skimmer will lose another 1 inch due to the bottom glass plate and have only (19" - 1") = 18" to work with.

Specifications for these skimmers are here: http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxunter028.

If you are really tight on vertical space, the Tunze Classic DOC skimmers are less than 10 inches in height (http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxunter029).

No offence to any but i rather stay away from AquaC and seaclone.
BTW I just checked out the ASM G-Mini Protein Skimmer and i like that. It's going to be on my list and the price isn't bad :)

Well as I've said above that the ASM Mini G is "okay." From what I've heard, if you change the pump to a larger needlewheel it skims better. People have had mixed reviews about the Aqua C's... but the bottom line is that it needs to fit under your cabinet so you may not have many choices... especially for around $100. I would search for used ones at this point.

Thanks 808,
I understand what your saying hopefully one of these days after i finish high school and get a job i will be able to get more pricey stuff...
I contacted Luke33? and he linked me to his topic with tons of mods and great info on the skimmer.
