I've seen conflicting views on what's compatible with what. Real simple. All the research I have done tells me triggerfish and sharks don't go together. Its my understanding that triggers can turn the tank into the wild bunch. Beautiful creatures but I'm not keen on losing thousands of dollars in dead fish. Do the triggers just swim around looking to get their fight going or is it by chance?
We want sharks..So.
A) Get shark first and trigger later
B) same time
C) get one or the other but not both

The tank in question is pretty large. Will that help?

Lifelong fresh water guy here, so I don't know.

Some of the coolest looking fish are peaceful and some aren't. I have heard people say its a roll of the dice and others say don't mix

Recently had red bellied piranhas so I'm somewhat familiar with aggressive. I also have had a large mouth bass that ate everything in the tank. I'm just not sure what's what in saltwater compatibility. I'm aware there are charts out there but I want first hand accounts

My son wanted a blue ring octopus.. I read about these guys and it may just be quicker to jump off Sears tower. So that's a no...

Lots to learn I guess..

I'm just curious how big the tank is that you're going to keep sharks in. Is it a swimming pool?

In general yes its best to avoid triggers and sharks in the same tank regardless of size of the tank or order of introduction,etc...

Now there are always examples in life with situations that don't fit the generic norm..
But just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't..
And just because it can doesn't mean it will..

Its really not a simple question and certainly not one where an exact answer can be given either..
But the generic recommendation based on experiences so far to avoid the pair is simple to follow..

I've never kept sharks, so I have little info for you there, other than I am certain that the type of shark will determine just what you can keep with it. There's a big difference between a little cat shark and a mako. So figure that out, and you will have a good starting point.

As for triggers, the only almost docile ones that I know of are the Niger and the Pinktail. The other end of that spectrum would be Undulated and Clown triggers.

It would seem that your tank is both big enough and of the right shape. You will need about double the filtration you think you will because whichever way you go, they are all messy eaters that create a lot of waste that much be taken care of.

I, for one, would love to see this work for you. So many have a wish list for which they are woefully unprepared and in the end, the creatures they are trying to keep are the ones who suffer.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Oh and you might post these questions in the large tank and aggressive fish forums for more helpful answers.

4500( round tank) gallons. I'm not trolling. I asked a simple question. If you guys can't answer, fine

Someone else a few weeks ago, also claiming not to be trolling, was asking why sharks couldn't go in 180 gallon tanks, or why we can't keep tiger sharks. With some topics, its just expected people will ask some qualifying questions to better ensure that nothing is missed.

For sharks, the best place to go would be this subforum. http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=139

And because I just love this build, http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2432500 this guy did a very cool one, had sharks and triggers.
