Complete DIY Custom 144x15x15

Quick question, and you probably already answered it, but I'm too lazy to go back through this thread... but how is there going to bed water flow from one end to the other? I see the over flow at one end, but will you be doing anything to help get the water down there? Just curious... Keep up the good work!

Looks great. I think you need to get it all wet already. :D

I know, I know, I'll have water in it soon, I need to get my loclines first and need to find the money for them (Christmas and B-Days are killing me)...

This tank seems perfect for an assortment of small reef fish.

Thanks! That's the goal. :D

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but do you have something to scrub the clear pipe? It'll get gross in no time.

Yep, it's been covered...

I'm not sure I follow your question???

Calvin, with all the fans and vents you have, why do you have those big gaps across the tops of the cabinet doors in the picture? I thought there would be enough air flow with the fans and vent that you could have full-height cabinets. With how much care you put into the aesthetics of the tank, I figured the big gaps would be off-putting. Oh well.

(how do you guys do the cool "quote" sections with lines around it??)
But anyway, this question has been addressed numerous times, often to the clear annoyance of the thread author. If you've read even the past couple pages, the answer to this is clear. Go read it. Sorry if that's rude, but the same question can only be answered so many times.

I share wrxreefer's question (and risk running the same mistake I just lambasted megaspot for); I recall discussion of a wavebox running the length of the whole page, and plans for that? It'd be sweet.

Other than that, looks great! Thanks for the update!

Tom

P.S. Just kidding on the gaps on the cabinet doors. I know they aren't attached yet. Just joshin'.

Was just wondering what you'll be doing for water flow from one end to the other.

Well I'm hoping the overflow will "pull" a little and the return on the opposite end with "push" a little. Other than that, I will have the Closed Loop circulating the water in the lower half of the tank and I'm hoping to add a Ecotech Vortech to generate a small wave to help carry the water down the length of the tank...

To get the quote tags, click the Quote link on the upper right corner of the post you wish to quote. ;)

I will be testing the vortech and tunze nano wavebox once I get to that point... I'm not looking for a large wave, but just nice steady flow, although just a 1/2" wave would look pretty cool. :D

P.S. glad you're kidding I was about to send you a slap. ;)

All I have to say is wow! That is one amazing setup. Can't wait to see it fully stocked.

Thanks!

oh wow, I saw this thread when you first made it. You've come a long way, but still have a ways to go :) Good luck man, it looks great!

NICE..Really nice work......It would be cool if you could put that return pipe in the coloum and just have a little piece stick out from there to go into your display

Here we go again ...

Edit: Decided not to blow up. Please just read before posting.

If you have a solution to the pipe situation, please post a pic of a better idea, and to summarize the situation, the column is solid (ie it can be in the column) and the pipe can't run up against the column (vertical 2x4 directly below the stand against the column from framing). Again a pic is worth a lot more...

Thanks.

Man, this made me laugh. I commend you on your restraint...I've almost lost it a couple of times reading this last 5 pages on this subject. :D

I say extend the project another 3 weeks. get out the drywall before theres water in it and create a "chase", extend the column look another 6" put a cabinet door on the exposed side that can be pipe access. Only the last straight and elbow would be exposed coming out of the wall. It would require a lot more work but I think would look better in the end.
.02

Not that it means crap to anyone, but i don't see a thing wrong or ugly with the pipe being exposed:p . All anyone will see from the one side is the spout and the other side will look like... oh i don't know... water coming in from somewhere.:D And i am almost positive when anybody walks in and sees this GORGEOUS display that pipe will never be noticed, unless of course you plan on putting a little red flashing light on top of it.:lol2:

Thanks for the thoughts guys, runningstix that sounds nice, but I think it would be a lot more work than it's worth... Plus I don't want to cut off another 6" from the end. :(

posted mentioned putting it in the column which is solid, and running it along the column, not building it out. sorry for the opinion, my bad

No, it's a good idea, but it would require removing the tank as it sits (along with all the plumbing), then I'd have to build the box, drywall it, texture, paint, etc... To put the cherry on the top for me, is my wife wants to move furniture down this weekend, which means any more construction is severely limited. :(

I honestly think I would find the closest match to the wall color of Krylon fusion and paint the pipe to mask it's appearance. Even thought the pipe isn't touching the wall, it will still make it blend in...at least I think it would. :)

Although the clear is cool, I think the constant cleaning is going to really get to you after a while.
