COMPLETELY OT: But trying everywhere... Dogs need home

Something happened a few weeks back and I had to make it right. I couldn't fix that, so I tried to make all well in cosmos, by getting involved with 2 dogs that were to be executed without chance of adoption from MCACC. The B4 pictures are pretty disturbing, so I think it best not to post them here. But the 'after's are posted. No rescue will step in to rehome them, and while my husband agreed to 'foster' for a few weeks, he did not mean indefinitely. I am getting concerned that I will come home one day and find he has returned them to the pound. That would so not be cool.

Desperate for long term foster care - until a rescue will accept them, or new permanent homes:

Both are 8 months old. Neither will grow to full size because of how they were neglected before.

The brown one is a girl, we are calling her Hope. With all the other problems we were fighting, she is now diagnosed with Tick Fever and Valley Fever. Her meds will run about $100 a month, probably for about 4 months. She is very sweet and needs a quiet environment. She is not healthy enough to be spayed yet, but improving every day. She is 24 pounds. Still the perfect lap size and she loves laps. Gentle kids should be ok, but no rowdy ones. She is still not at 100% and still believes people will hurt her. That being said, no growling, no biting. Just fear. Comes with a free crate and lifetime free babysitting. She is very subdued and would like a quiter environment.

The spotted one is the boy. I am calling him Slugger. He is healthy enough to be neutered, and I can cover that. However, he has a condition called Demodex mange that will require treatment in the form of daily ivermectin for months. Demodex is not contageous to people, cats, or even other dogs. To put it as plainly as possible, it is his own skin fauna taking over. The ivermectin is I think worst case senario, $30 a month, basically until all of his hair grows back. This boy is really sweet and would love to have children around him. There is not enough good to say about him. He is 28 pounds right now. Like Hope - free crate, lifetime free babysitting.

In either case, if it doesn't work out, send him or her back. Just PLEASE keep them on the meds in the meantime.

Information as to their history and the pics I can not show, are on my facebook - search Kate Goodhart. There is yet a 3rd foster on my Facebook as well. He is through a rescue, and their info is on my facebook page. He needs a home too, but that has to go through the rescue. Hope and Slugger are my primary concern at this point.

602-920-5866 is better than PM if interested in meeting either of these kids.

PS: Their pics actually make them look larger than they are. They are both in the larger beagle size range.

Wow. I hope something works out. I just read a very sad statistic, that the animal shelters euthanize 90 dogs a day.

Hope you find a home for them. I would take them but we fostered a beagle for a couple months and fell in love with her so she is now permanent. Good luck.

I hope it works out for you...that said I also hope my wife doesnt see this we started with one and now have four.....she falls in love too easy.

I wish you the best of luck and if I know of anyone I will certainly put them in contact.

Good luck finding a home. I love dogs and hate to see them mistreated. I would take one but I had to give up my dog not long ago. Thats a sore subject with me. Best of luck.

Being this is something I deal with daily here is some advice. I hope it helps.

There are almost a hundred registered no kill, non profit dog adoption agencies in AZ. Use google and contact each and every one. Call every 2-4 weeks to see if they have any room. Here are a couple names of groups that I feel do a good job.

Mixed up Muts
Foothills Animal Rescue
Finding Fido

Good luck.

Sorry folks! I never got notification that anyone ever responded...

Slugger, looks awsome and is going to his first adoption event today. I found a rescue that would list him, which is what I had been mostly trying to do all along. I am pretty sure we won't be brining him back today. He is that cool a dog.

Hope has been 'retained' by her quarantine foster to take the pressure off here. She comes to us on the 27th and will be listed with the same rescue. Unlike Slugger, who will adopt completely healthy and drug free, Hope will have some long term costs, which we will deal with when the time comes.

Hubby, after looking again at the 'before' pics realizes that crazy people like me are necessary to save at least a few of these kids, so we will be a continual foster for other throw aways on death row in the future, just we will take breaks in between.

Jay Reefer: it becomes a triage issue with rescues: how many dogs can x amount of $ save? In the case of Hope and Slugger, it was many, many. I will be re-fostering from time to time, but my preferance is for the New Hopes - the dogs immediately scheduled for death for such reasons as fear, growling at a kennel mate at the food bowl, simple colds, treatable injury and of course, there are some, like Hope and Slugger, that were serious medical cases. Unfortunately, none of the rescues you refer to do New Hopes. Actually, to an unnamed 1 of the 3 I did ask, if I produced these kids healthy and vet bill free, would they rehome them under their umbrella, with them taking the fee, and a fsoter home would be provided until each was adopted. The answer was No.
