Concerned, Not Seen Before

Hi, (not sure on name of the coral) anyway, i have a large colony which although never showed its polyps and is spread over the system, is displaying some sort of white stringy stuff, no new corals in the vicinity, apart from the wave makers whiting one side out (nothing can be done about that, as no where else to station them), which also has been since day one.

No changes in water etc, my tank water is direct from the sea, which is a reef in the BG (basically the reefs are 20 meters away) so cant be an issue there, top up is autonomous...

All other corals are fine...

Hard to see clearly but sounds like mesenterial filaments, which can be a feeding response or a sign the corals irritated.

Understood, hopefully the prior, saying that since getting home i've seen the first polyp extension since tanking them from wild.

From the little experience with mesenterial filaments I've had they've always been an indicator of an irritant.

I've only seen this from certain acros when feeding. Not all of mine do that. And then I also saw something similar when I had an outbreak of bugs. Hopefully you won't have that!

Where was the water collected from ? Close to the shore? Was there any recent storms? Or did you collect from deeper water? Was the water collected from the same place the coral was?

The reef at the base of my garden...

No monsoon season has not yet begun, still when it does, ill check the corals at low tide and if they're ok then i guess it should be ok to continue taking, if not ill take the yacht out a few miles and collect...

The most upsetting thing is i so want some Montipora, however, i know its out there past the low tide mark, but scared to take any as it's illegal to do so (protected zone) but i can travel 600 Klms, out of the marine park and get from the non protected zones, but do not know where will have some, and buying seems hit or miss, yet to see any for sale, and only one LFS and they are already being extorted by customs, immigration and so on just for the fish they import, so not even considering coral yet... :(

Oh :) and if anyone wants to live on the beach, reef etc like me - send me a PM i have a lot of land... ;) its a reefers wet dream i am sure ha ha

True, but the reef is 20-30 meters away so we take 5 litres of water a day, surely this enough to keep up?

Considering (actually we're thinking of a 300g + tank, sun lit through glass roof), and running a pipe out past the low tide mark, and pumping in and out (water running through a reserve tank that then feeds to main tank constantly)... -still working the plan out for that.... and the wife said yes yesterday, after i agreed to buy her a new car ;) :D
