I have 2 conchs, a Floridian fighting conch and a Tongan fighting conch. While it looks more like the Tongan, the Tongan fighting conch does not have the 'crown' of points on the shell. I would guess it is, therefore, the queen conch.

I believe it to be the MAGIC CONCH!

If you blow into it Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy will come to save the day.

J/K - I have no idea...Please ignore my useless and meaningless post. I attribute my stupidity to work boredome.

In this article Ron Shimek provides some links with pics, but without describing identifying features it could be either one.

Edit:
I may have answered my own question, I was just going through Ron's Marine Invertebrates. Two things stand out.
1) size- queens get very large, up to 16 inches. Fighting remain under 4 inches. ( Mine is only 3 1/2 inches ) so this doesnt help.
2) Color inside shell- Queens are pink, peach, yellow, or orange. Fighting are brown to chestnut inside. ( Mine is pink inside ) Looking back at the links provided in Ron's article there is an obvious difference between the two.

I have two of them in seperate tanks, the largest tank is 100 gal 6 foot long tank. Its not going to be big enough. Now I have to convince my wife that I need a huge tank for my snails.

Actually if you open the link strombus gigas the shell pictured at the bottom exactly resembles the shells of mine.

I was in petco today browsing the sick fish and saw that they had a queen conch for sale, it was listed as such for 5.99 with no accompanying information. The weird thing was it was actually up on the glass feeding. It was only about an inch long.

good read. The things I was wondering about were the oval shaped objects in the 2nd pic. They are along the rim of the shell and right above the foot. I was curious what they were. I think I have seen similar in my tank.

I have a 2 inch queen conch that climbs on the glass and rocks when he runs out of algae to eat on the substrate.

I have also noticed a peculiar behavior with my queen conch that I thought was pretty cool. He always has algae growing on the front part of his shell about as far back as he can reach. At first I thought it was just growing naturally and he would eat it all off when he ate all of the algae on the substrate. When all the algae was gone on the sand and he still wasn't eating it off his shell I got tired of it and cleaned it off myself. The next day I was watching him eat and he was taking small pieces of algae and setting it on his shell by his head. It appears as though he is camouflaging himself because after a week he again had a thick mat of algae on his shell.

Just thought that was interesting

Mine keeps his shell clean by sand-diving.

And after a 3 week absence, Hilda the Fighting Conch has surfaced again, looking heathy, her otherwise plain gray shell now acquiring shades of green, lavender and purple.

I wish some of her coralline type stuff would flake off onto my red-violet rock.

Thanks for the welcome graveyardworm.

I think it is really interesting how something with such a small brain can exhibit a behavior so complicated. Seeing that and the ridiculous amount of biodiversity that exists in our tiny tanks(compared to the ocean) are what I love most about this hobby.
