Anybody keep Condy Anems? Will ocellaris host them? how big do condy's get?

sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm considering getting an anemone soon.

i have a condy and when my bta died (was bought very bleeched) my maroons hosted in the condy for a while.. so it does happen but not often .

I doubt your Ocellaris will host a condy. I have had a condy that was once hosted by a female tomato clown and a male clarkii but never once had an ocellaris that was interested in a Condy. I have yet to see pictures of a Ocellaris hosting a Condy anyways.

for some reason I like the way condy's look =P maybe i'll get a condy just for the anem rather than for the clowns to host.

how are they compared to other anemones? i should probably go chck them out on wetwebmedia or something =/

thanks for your patient replies though.

FWIW - condy nems aren't natural hosts for ANY clown. That's one of the reasons we see them so much cheaper around here than species that are host anemones.

It is possible that your clown will want to host it, but there's also a very good chance that the condy might make a meal of your clown since they see the clowns as a fish and fish = food. Some times clowns are fine, it could be the size of the clown compared to the nem though, who knows.

Just wanted to give you a heads up, I'd hate for you to be surprised one day and come home to find your clowns gone.

My occell.'s host a sebae (H. crispa) anemone and seem to really like it. There's some good nem info in the FAQ section at the top of this forum, it's worth the read.

Good luck!

Good luck!

I have a pair of Condies that I purchased five years ago. One has puple tips and a white base, the other does not have colored tips but its base is orange. The anems expand to about a 16" dia during the day. I have never had a problem with them moving around the tank on their own like some people have complained of. (I have moved them several times but they always stayed put). Two years ago I added a Tomato Clown (A. Frenatus????). The clown moved right into the Condies but it was evedent that it wasnt completely painless for him. Now he moves freely between the two but it seems that he prefers one of them at night . I had tried to keep Pacific anemonies before without much luck. I really like the swaying motion of the long tentacles and I would keep the Condies even without a clown.

My osc. are living in my purple tip condy. They are breeding under it too... so it is possible.. It took the pair about 2 weeks to move in, but once there, they never left it!
