Condy Question

I have 2 Condy nem's in my tank, since the day we got them (about 5 months ago) 1 of them (Thing1) has never moved from where he set himself when put in the tank, the other (Thing2) has moved every week or so, sometimes to the top of the rocks, sometimes under a rock and yet other times just set in the crushed coral. Thing2 never looks bad, always open and full, eats and poops regularly, he just cant seem to find "his" spot. Well now Thing2 has moved, or fallen into the crevice way under the rock work, where the Engineer Gobies built there caves. It has little to no light and little water movement. Thing2 has been there less than a day. My question is, can Thing2 get itself out of there if it wanted? I cannot get under there.

Their feet are like snails, they can crawl in/out of anywhere they want.

If one of your condys is not settled down and is still wandering, its still looking for "the right spot" Its important during this time to cover up powerhead intakes, as they can wander onto them, and get sucked in. There was just a post a few days ago where this happened to someones anemone and it didnt make it. If you temporarily cover the powerhead intakes with a filterpad and a rubber band, that would help prevent a nem from getting sucked in

Thanks Dex, i actually did just what you suggested after reading it. Is it normal for a nem to move around like that? i test my water often, i have good flow and lights, the other nem is perfectly happy.

It's normal for them to wander until they find their ideal spot. Sounds like thing 1 made a home, and thing 2 is browsing still. When I had a Condy it settled in a rock crack in the top right of my tank, a few inches in front of my powerhead. I couldn't believe something so big could suck completely into this tiny hole!

Good luck! You could always try to make a cave for its foot by stacking some rocks with a hole big enough for the foot, an then gently place it in there and see if it decides it's happy

If you get a new anemone that is loose (not attached to a rock) you can try this. I take a rock with a hole or two that are big enough for the foot, put the annemone on the rock and loosely cover the nem and rock with some very fine mesh filter or cloth and hold it on the rock with a rubberband. Give it a spot in the tank that might be good for it and wait a week or two. By then the nem should have attached to the rock and you have a start. If it moves, it moves, but if you had a good rock, a good location, good light and good flow, odds are it will stay put. The good rock with a good hole or two for a start makes a big difference.

i burry a rock under the sand near bottom of tank in tank with dsb in shallow sand tank not needed but do this in a bright lit spot.then take a 2 inch wide 2 inch high piece of pvc and i place that over the burried rock after he seems to settle in about 4 to 8 hours i feed him a live ghost shrimp.has allways worked for me
