Condylactis Anemone

My boyfriend bought a Condy anemone, and didn't research first. Now that he is home he is second guessing it as he has read that it can sting any corals or other anemones that are close to it.

The clown fish we bought seem to be hosting on it already but I am worried they will be eaten by it.

Does anyone have one of these Condy's in their tank with other corals and fish with success? And advice? Or should he bring it back to the store.

Thanks for you help.

I have had clownfish host in condys before, but it was always big maroon clowns.

We just have two Amphiprion ocellaris, they aren't very big either. We are still debating on whether or not we should put the Condy in the tank.

I guess we could always take it out if anything happens.

I personally like the look of them, but if I am not mistaken they are from the Atlantic. I would not keep one. All anemones can and will sting.

I keep mine on an isolated group of rocks. It does move around but mine has not detached from the rocks to "jump" from its pile of rocks to other areas of the tank.

What size of tank do you have? We have a 65 gallon. Not sure if that is big enough for it to not move around.

Does it sting literally everything it comes into contact with?

LOL, my tank is only a 20 gallon long. I don't think it matters how big the tank is though in term movement. I just observed that it doesn't scoot over sand to other parts of my tank. I've repositioned the rock it's on but every time it moves to my high flow area which unfortunately is on the back side of the tank. Mine really likes the spot where it's tentacles really gets blown around.

Well I have put it in, glad to know yours does well in a 20 gallon. Now to hope for the best in mine! I don't have too much for it to kill, but I'd like to keep what I have.
Thanks for you input!

Clownfish hosting it is rare and dont move the nem you are lucky that it happened in the first place ( I have been wanting my clowns to host my condy for 3 months now and no luck ) Also I dont think it can or will eat the clowns.

We bought the Condy and the clown fish on the same day and acclimated them together. Since we moved them into the tank they have only gone near it once that I have seen. Not sure if they just liked it because it was the only thing in their aclimation bucket, or they really want to host in it.

The anemone has moved to a different spot where it is wedged inbetween two rocks and it is hard for the clowns to get to it, but so far everything is alive. I'm hoping for the best!

I had one once that I got from another reefer. It constantly moved and any coral it came in contact with was pretty roughed up after it moved on. I ended up rehoming it.

I've had my condy for almost 2 years now. Stayed put for almost a year when I first got it, but started to move sometime after that. It settled on some rocks that I planned on adding more corals to, so I moved a Tiki head ornament near it and sure enough it moved into it and I was able to move it away from the rocks. It's been in the Tiki head for a year now.
I wish my clowns would host it but they decided they like the overflow box better. No problems with the condy at all, all the fish swim around it without issues and my cleaner shrimp will even steal food from it once and a while.

I had to remove my condy anemone from the new tank I started as well because of the problems it was causing. I also had an issue where I acclimated two clowns a month after i started this particular tank and one made it and one didnt. the one that didnt died due to the stress levels and the little minor spikes in nitrate over the first few cycles.
