Hello! I am new this forum, so please don't flame me. I am getting a pair of false perc this weekend. I am looking for cheap anenome and have found a medium Condylactis. Questions:

1. Will the clowns host in it or should I hold off?
2. I heard it is extra "stingy". How do I handle it?
3. Should I add all 3 at once or can I add the clowns now and the anemone later?

PLEASE ADVISE!! Thanks!

1.The clowns will not host but the anemone may...;).
2.Just acclimate in a bucket by drip and then put gloves on and quickly move it into the tank on the sand bed.
3.Dont matter.

But just to let you know it is very rare for false percs to host in this type of anemone. If it were me I would try and find a small BTA for trade.

Hi edaskalos!

Firstly a condy is not a natural hosting anemone, it is definitley possible for it to happen in your aquarium although the chances are very slim. Also you have a chance of the condy stinging/eating the clowns once they become hosted, again, if they ever do.

To handle any anemone I would recommend wearing aqua gloves of somesort, although I have never been stung myself by any of the species I have owned, I have seen and heard horror stories...better safe than sorry eh?

To answer your 3rd question, I have to ask how long your system has been running? I wouldn't recommend adding one to a system younger than around 6-8 months old. They are very delicate creatures that require the stability of an established aquarium.

HTH and good luck!

Condy lights requirements are quite high and they often wanders for me. If you bought corals it might kill them, so really it is not really cheap after all since you will lose some coral in the process.

hey there! I've only been thru the anchorage airport - (layovers headed to asia). Great state you have there.

Anyways - Your odds of getting the condy to host the percs are not good.

A condylactis is present only in the Atlantic Ocean. False Perculas exist only in the Pacific/Indian. Basically - all hosting anemones are found in places OTHER than the atlantic.

I agree that they love to walk around but I found their lighting requirements minimal. Mine was kept under VHO.

That being all stated - i had a condylactis and it was forced to host a very aggressive and big female maroon clown. She tore so many tentacles off that I think the condy got the message (see the right side of the condy with stubby tentacles).

Here are some pics - this is from long ago.

my maroon also hosted my condy she loved it until she killed it from being so rough its worth a try there pretty cheap but if you have a new system it will most likely perish
