Condylactus Question

not many pros IMO - clowns won't host, and they can get sticky and have powerful nematocysts that can injure/kill other critters easily

Rearly, but I've seen condys host clowns. As billdogg stated, there's not much pros about condy. They kill fish and move around quite often.

i have 3 condys in my moray eel tank, they all chill right at the outflow from my sump. i had one in my reef for awhile and my gold bar maroons were hosting in it with an anemone shrimp and a porcelin crab

Pros: They are attractive to the eye, at least for me. I find them more aesthetically pleasing that say a carpet anemone for sure. Not too difficult to take care of(in my experience). It is cool to feed them and watch them eat. Inexpensive(I got mine for 12$ Canadian).

Cons: Won't host anything. Can move around causing a great deal of harm to fish/corals. Apparently emit toxins upon death.

It might be a good place to start if you want an anemone but in the long run you will probably want a different type.

I don't think that Condy's will be good for a reef tank at all. They would go decently in a larger tank with proper lighting, live rock, and a few large fish.

More pleasing then a carpet?!?! BITE YOUR TONGUE :p ;) ;) ;)

While they aren't a nature host for any clown fish, once in a while they will host clowns --- many years ago I had one, and it hosted my Clarkii pair. However, that isn't the norm, and wouldn't count on them hosting any clowns. Heck they could end up eating them, so not worth the risk.

I have one in my 110 gal reef tank. Its stayed in the same spot for about a year now, and in that same vicinity for over 2 years. I don't really like it, but my wife loves it so I can't really get rid of it. The only reason I don't like it is because I can't put corals anywhere near it.
